How to Use ScrapTrade to Sell Scrap Smarter, Not Harder

The scrap industry has changed. Instead of calling multiple yards and accepting the first offer, you can now reach a network of verified buyers and let the market compete for your material. That's how you maximise value.

Here's how to get the most from ScrapTrade

✅ 1. Find More Buyers

Don't limit yourself to one local yard. List your scrap once and reach verified buyers across Australia and internationally, expanding your opportunities beyond your local market.

✅ 2. Sell at the Highest Price

More buyers create more competition. When multiple buyers are interested, you gain negotiating power instead of negotiating from a position of weakness. The highest bidder often wins, helping you unlock the true market value of your scrap.

✅ 3. Research Before You Sell

Compare offers, understand current market demand, and make informed decisions. Better information leads to better pricing and stronger negotiations.

✅ 4. Negotiate with Confidence

You're in control. Review offers, negotiate directly with verified buyers, and choose the deal that works best for your business—not just the first offer you receive.

✅ 5. Trade Securely

Verified participants and structured digital trading help create a safer, more transparent buying and selling experience.

✅ 6. Build Long-Term Business Connections

Every transaction is an opportunity to expand your network. Build relationships with recyclers, manufacturers, exporters, and scrap buyers that can generate repeat business for years to come.

The future of scrap trading isn't about making more phone calls—it's about giving yourself access to a bigger market.

The more demand you create for your scrap, the more leverage you have.
If you're still selling to just one buyer, you're probably leaving money on the table.

Australia has a solar problem most people have not noticed yet.
Roughly four million solar panels are coming off Australian roofs every year. Less than 5% are currently being recycled. The rest are heading to landfill — taking valuable silver, high purity silicon, copper and aluminium with them.

That is starting to change.
The federal government has committed $24.7 million to a national solar panel recycling pilot launching in 2026, targeting 250,000 panels across 100 sites. Researchers at Macquarie University have developed breakthrough silver extraction technology that recovers high purity silver without damaging the silicon wafer underneath — turning Australia's retired panel stockpile into what researchers describe as equivalent to the output of the nation's largest silver mine.
In our latest market report we break down:
☀️ The scale of Australia's coming solar panel retirement wave

🥈 Why silver and silicon recovery is the real economic opportunity

🏭 Current processing capacity gaps and where investment is heading

📋 The regulatory landscape — landfill bans, product stewardship and what is coming next

🌏 How the global solar recycling market compares to Australia's position
This is one of the most significant emerging materials recovery opportunities in the Australian circular economy — and almost nobody is talking about it yet.

The European and United Kingdom scrap metal market is going through one of its most significant structural transitions in decades.
HMS prices are recovering. Electric Arc Furnaces are reshaping how Europe makes steel. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism is accelerating the shift toward secondary metals. And post-Brexit trade dynamics continue to create both headwinds and opportunities for UK scrap operators.

For Australian scrap businesses and for anyone trading across global markets — understanding what is happening in Europe right now is not optional. Europe sets the pricing benchmark that flows through to every major scrap trading region, including the Middle East and Asia.

In our latest market report we break down:
🇪🇺 Current European ferrous and non-ferrous scrap pricing

🇬🇧 How Brexit has permanently reshaped UK scrap trade flows

⚡ The EAF revolution and what it means for scrap demand

🌿 How CBAM is making recycled metal a regulatory necessity not just an environmental choice

📈 Where European scrap prices are heading in the second half of 2026

This is independent analysis — no broker agenda, no manufacturer bias. Just the data and what it means for your business.

Five data points that reframe everything you thought you knew about the scrap industry.

1️⃣ The US scrap recycling sector generates $117 billion in economic impact annually — and 75% of that value flows through small businesses providing stable local employment.

2️⃣ Every recycled ton of steel saves 1,100 kg of iron ore, 630 kg of coal and cuts CO₂ emissions by 58%. Every ton of recycled copper prevents the carbon-intensive mining of 200 tons of raw ore.

3️⃣ Electric vehicles require 183 lbs of copper per vehicle versus 48 lbs for a gas car — a 3.8x increase. The electrification revolution is not coming for the scrap industry. It is already here.

4️⃣ In 2024 the US produced 870,000 tons of recycled copper but exported 957,000 tons — sending over 40% abroad. A 2027 federal mandate will require 25% of high-quality copper scrap to remain domestic. Export windows are closing.

5️⃣ Global e-waste contains an estimated $57 billion in recoverable precious metals annually. Advanced facilities are now recovering up to 90% of gold and 95% of silver from circuit boards and industrial scrap.

The scrap industry is not a legacy business.

It is the feedstock of the clean energy transition, the backbone of domestic manufacturing security and the most capital-efficient path to industrial decarbonisation on earth.

ScrapTrade connects Australian scrap businesses to the global buyers driving this demand — verified, transparent and professionally operated.

The data is clear. The opportunity is now.

The global scrap market is sending a clear signal right now.

Global scrap use is rising toward 480 million tonnes in 2026. After a late 2025 lull, prices are recovering — Turkish HMS scrap is back around €300 per tonne and the US market is sitting at approximately $347 per tonne.

Electrification, renewable energy infrastructure and the global push toward decarbonisation are driving metal demand to levels the industry has never seen before.

What does this mean for Australian scrap sellers?

It means the material sitting in your yard, on your worksite or in your garage is worth more right now than it was six months ago. And the window of firming prices is open today.

Buyers on ScrapTrade are actively sourcing Australian scrap to meet global demand. They are verified, they are competitive and they are ready to pay current market rates for your material.

The market is moving.
