I help business owners who want to be more in control of their message and truly grow their business through meaningful connections with their desired audience. Uncovering their unique story, then finding a way to tell it in their own true voice across multiple marketing channels, is my goal. BUT if you don't want to do it yourself, and can't see a way to learn how, I also offers content creation

services: websites, ad writing, blogs, case studies etc. I'm also really good at getting the stuff out of people's heads and onto the page in a way that makes sense. I can build content marketing strategies to show you how and where you should be advertising, conversing, targeting, and converting on the web.

Talking with my hands again…🤦🏽‍♀️(frustrated Italian in another life I’m sure !)

LOVED running this intimate workshop on Storytelling for Leaders today A gorgeous group of smart women in a gorgeous setting.

I began the session with a short visualization to help them connect the dots between how they viewed the leaders in their life (parents/teachers/coaches) and how they lead others. We looked at their reactions to praise and reprimands by these early leaders and how that’s impacted their own leadership style. Some a-ha moments for sure.

One of the biggest challenge with leadership storytelling is having people understand what stories to tell - most think their life is uninteresting and there’s nothing to share! Wrong!! We followed this up with some process pieces to help with structure and delivery of the stories.

Stories can be used by leaders to motivate, build trust, engender loyalty, reduce conflict, inspire, change perceptions, create a shared vision, offer comfort and hope, and so much more.

Stories connect our us own e with our intention. Stories make sense of the data. Stories himanise the decisions.

What a lovely way to spend the a few hours, sharing, eating, learning and watching some lights turn on.

To say I’m a “fan” of Holocaust literature sounds disrespectful and diabolically trite. However, ever since studying modern European history at school and then diving deeper whilst at Uni and then visiting concentration camps whilst backpacking, I’ve become infatuated with real world accounts, memoirs, of this hideous time in human history. For somehow, through the horror, there is always such incredible human spirit which lifts me.

I expected a lot from this book. I’d heard good things. So I was excited when my bookclub put it on the list. I knew it was written as a screenplay first (which can inherently have problems when translated into ‘novel’ form), but I was hopeful.

Unfortunately, whilst I did feel the story, I don’t think it was particularly expertly executed.

Dialogue between Lale and Gita was thin and a little empty, and the characterization was superficial. I just wanted more every time they interacted. I know there are struggles as a writer when you’re using stories from a real life someone to create a book that’s not technically a memoir nor non-fiction account but neither is it a truly fictional tale… and I get that in a concentration camp you often weren’t afforded the luxury of speech…. But somehow the lack of believable dialogue really missed the marked in making me lean into these characters.

And the end… well it just kind of wrapped up years worth of events into a couple of paragraphs! It was done before I knew it! In fact I thought I’d actually skipped over a few pages it was that jolting. I remember thinking, “this feels like the 10 minute warning was just announced in a literature exam so you knew you had to tie up the story fast!”

It certainly wasn’t terrible by any means. And Lale’s survival due to his smarts is an incredible story. I just wanted more. More tears. More empathy. More heartbreaking moments.

The first typhoon of the season has hit down south…
… and so the grey skies and steady rain over Manila today has seen me pick up this book again.

It’s my bookclub book that I starts a few weeks back but it didn’t prove to be a very ‘fun’ beach read so I left it over the Holy Week break.

Now, with a cup of tea and a quietly house I’m tackling the hard to pronounce names and am lost in the incredible story of one of the most courageous diplomats and women I’ve ever read about!

With (perhaps) idealistic patriotism she has faced incredible adversity in post Cold War Ukraine, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan as the US ambassador…not unsurprising as she’s a staunchly democratic female trying to enact change in a highly misogynistic autocratic corrupt environment. Worse however, is her treatment by her own country’s new government - the Trump administration.

A wonderful memoir and humble telling of her dedication to the foreign service and diplomacy and the intricacies and harsh realities of this life.

An excellent read.

AI… where do you stand on this?!

A verrry interesting challenge is on the horizon (in fact, right in front of us) for writers, artists and marketers.

Does it take away our jobs and threaten creative originality ? Or are their limitations to these clever programs which will never truly be able to replace humans? Can it be helpful in small doses in the right context for the right purpose? Or does its mere existence sound the end for original artists?

I read an interesting article published on the Australian Society of Authors website which considers a range of perspectives on this challenge.

Whilst I’ve always enjoyed riding the tech wave… (I’ve made a career out of it as a digital marketer and I enjoy new tech on a personal front) … I am confronted by AI when it comes to the possibility of undermining creative human endeavor.

This comment by Author Alan Baxter particularly struck a chord with me:
“Another key question should also be asked: why create tools to replace people in tasks they enjoy doing anyway?

“In a world where people are still cleaning ilets and working in mines, I can’t believe we’ve got the robots making our art and stories. I thought robots were supposed to do the sh*tty jobs to allow more people to pursue their passions. AI is simply a hideous and well-focussed encapsulation of capitalism at the expense of humanity, as usual.”

It’s going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out over the next little while. I’m not 100% sure yet which side of the fence I’ll come down on, which is an interesting place to find myself.

We’re baaaaccck!!

After a 3 year hiatus the Ultimate Girls Week Away retreat is finally back on.

For those of you who’ve been following me a while you might remember me flooding your feeds with tales from Fiji in Feb 2020 of an incredible week long retreat with women who sought change, respite, clarity, connection and confidence. It was epic.

And now, after much carry on, it’s finally returned! This year it is on home soil- the stunning Cairns in Australia.

I’ll be running group writing workshops on retreat (most likely memoir writing), as well as offering 1:1 coaching sessions for those who desire more work on their writing voice (for their business or otherwise).

Come join me!! It’s going to be magic.

Whether you’re looking for a graphic designer, a copywriter, a cleaner or a book coach 😉, it’s important to be really clear and honest about what you want.

Don’t beat around the bush or be embarrassed by your awful grammar or messy kitchen. Just ask for what you want and hire what you need.

I’ve finally found it!

My heaven on earth … a local secondhand bookstore with rows and rows of joy, including special vintage finds, and lots of writerly decor. 👏🏻

So many of these treasure troves closed down here during the pandemic, never to reopen. I remember reading a blog from 2019 when I first arrived here last year, about the top 10 bookstores to visit in Manila…only to find that only 2 were still in existence.

So I’m pumped to find this beauty open and thriving ! My bank account is already crying but I’m ignoring the tears. 😅
