[ What would bookstore owner interpret ‘black book’? Oh, wait, we are not talking about general bookstore, it’s a bookstore — that sells one title of book weekly! ]

We had been in ( #森岡書店) in Ginza, Tokyo during 2/27 - 3/4 to present the concept < L’INTERPRÉTATION: MON LIVRE NOIR | INTERPRETATION: MY BLACK BOOK > and got to discover this erudite owner’s talent. Yoshiyuki Morioka has been running bookstore business over 10 years and he decided to move his store from Kayabacho to a quiet street in Ginza in 2015. With this new location, he presents one title at a time weekly and manages the presentation like exhibition that matches up the the theme of the title. During the meetings, he surprised our curator Olivia Pan with his sketching talent. The first image is the portrait he did at the meeting and the second and third are the portrait that he drew of the guest speaker of the talk event at the time, Martino Di Napoli Rampolla creative director of ; they drew each other after the interview. These are presented at the current L’INTERPRÉTATION: L’ESPACE NOIR in ( #好氏研究室) till the 17th of April.

[ Talking about imagination in association to space, what would you picturize? ]

Japanese graphic designer Jiro Ando has infused his thoughts and fantasy about conceptual space on his black book by utilising the images from his ‘ ’ photography exhibition. ( #結界 | boundary) is a black and white photography series about his ideas and thoughts over a Japanese superstitious act on the streets — that despite it has been proven to be ineffective, people still practice and believe in placing plastic bottles with bottle full water outside may expel stray cats from messing around. His delicate craftsmanship and fresh design ideas are impressive to get to know on site.

We also have brought a sample copy of his Kekkai photography book at ( #好氏研究室) for L’INTERPRÉTATION: L’ESPACE NOIR till the 17th of April. * This photography book is made of water dissolvable paper and binded carefully by hand.
