Presenting the Sesame lift!

This is the lift you use when you cannot have one that provides wheelchair access into the building via a lift or a ramp.

Designed to blend into a building's architecture, the Sesame lift is invisible and features a superimposed staircase. When access is required, the user pushes a button, allowing the steps to retract back into the staircase, revealing a vertical platform lift to facilitate compliant access.

MGAC commenced work on the Department of Lands Building during 2016 with the Development Application to restore and convert this magnificent building to become the Sandstone Precinct. We worked with Make Architects and Essence Project Management on behalf of the Pontiac Land Group during early concept and schematic stages to develop the design to become a 6-star luxury hotel. As the project progressed, we furthered our work with Built to provide quality accessibility design outcomes during design development and detailed design stages. Finally, during 2022 we commenced our site inspections and finalised our certification at the end of 2022. This project was incredibly satisfying working through very difficult problems and producing out of the box solutions to achieve functional accessibility.

What a project and what a milestone! We have finally finished construction accessibility sign off for Salesforce Tower. Designed by Foster + Partners and documented by Architectus, the tower is the tallest office building and the second tallest building in Sydney.

MGAC worked with Lendlease all the way from concept and DA design (2017) through to design development, CC, construction documentation and throughout the construction and site inspection stages. This journey lasted 5 years and has been incredibly well managed by our Associate Director Anthony Leuzzi ,who heads-up our major projects team.

The team are now working with the Salesforce fit-out that is not only adhering with DDA Premises Standards but also implementing certain requirements from the ADA (American Disability Act).

There’s a lot of change happening in the accessibility space. Senior Access Consultant Peter Bedford goes through the major changes and encourages everyone in the industry to stay alert and aware of what’s on the horizon.

Major accessible building changes are coming

Most people in the building industry are aware that a new National Construction Code (NCC) will be adopted later this year. Although this is scheduled for adoption by the states and territories on September 1, a preview will be made available on 9 May 2022.
