Last week, the Victorian Government announced 150 additional Protective Services Officers, while Victoria Police is expanding Operation Pulse from four retail areas each day to six, including busy suburban shopping strips.
Since December 2025, Operation Pulse has resulted in 1,766 arrests, more than 3,500 charges and the seizure of 248 weapons.

For retailers, shopping centre operators and property managers, the scale of the response reflects the security challenges now being experienced across many retail environments.

When each site manages access independently, credential updates happen site by site. A departing employee’s card gets disabled at their primary location. But the other two sites they had access to? Those get updated when someone remembers.

Centralised access control solves this at the source. One platform, all sites. When a credential is revoked, it’s revoked everywhere. When a contractor’s access period expires, it expires across every location. No site-by-site updates. No orphaned credentials. Full audit trail.

For organisations managing multiple facilities, this is often the single change that delivers the most immediate operational benefit.

Happy International Security Officers' Day.

Most people notice security officers only when something goes wrong. The rest of the time, the work is quiet: the 3am patrol check, the alarm response in the rain, the calm word that settles a difficult situation before it becomes an incident, the site knowledge that comes from showing up to the same facility, shift after shift, and paying attention.

That consistency is the job. It rarely makes headlines, and it's exactly what keeps businesses, hospitals, shopping centres, schools and communities running.

Multi-site security gets messy fast when every location runs on a different system, provider, or reporting format.

One site has an older camera system. Another has access control that is only partly centralised. A third uses a different patrol or monitoring arrangement altogether.

That is how multi-site security often becomes harder to manage than it needs to be. Instead of one coherent program, you end up coordinating several different setups.

Many businesses have CCTV from one provider, alarms from another, and access control from a third. None of them talk to each other.

Earlier this year, Melbourne Catholic schools reported a $200,000 damage bill from copper theft. Four schools hit. One lost power to five buildings for a week.

The scrap value of the stolen copper is often a fraction of what it costs to repair, replace, and recover. That's the pattern with copper theft: the damage to the facility consistently exceeds the value of what was taken.

For schools, councils, and community facilities, the question is not whether copper theft is a risk. It's whether your facility’s most vulnerable points, such as external cabling, electrical pits, and service areas, are monitored and protected outside operating hours.
