When a security provider is engaged early, they can input into your site layout, crowd flow, and emergency planning before decisions are locked in. Moving a stage or changing an entry point is simple on a plan. It’s expensive and disruptive on event day.

For medium to large events, eight to twelve weeks lead time is the minimum for a proper security plan. For anything over a thousand people, earlier is better.

Around 95 per cent of Australian healthcare workers have experienced physical or verbal violence at work. That figure comes from the Australian Medical Association, citing Safe Work Australia data.

Violence and aggression in healthcare environments is the most significant occupational hazard the sector faces. Emergency departments, acute inpatient wards, and any setting where patients are under stress or distress are the highest-risk environments.

The security challenge is specific. Healthcare facilities are simultaneously workplaces, treatment environments, and public-access buildings. Security that works here has to reduce risk without creating additional distress for patients and families.

That means getting the design right from the start: access control at sensitive clinical areas, duress alarm integration for staff in patient-facing roles, and CCTV coverage aligned with where incidents actually occur.

Event security doesn’t start when the doors open. It starts weeks earlier, with a site walkthrough, a crowd flow plan, and a conversation about what could go wrong.

The events that run smoothly are almost always the ones where security planning happened early. The ones that don’t are usually the ones where security was the last thing booked.

AI-based video analytics genuinely reduces false alarms in well-configured systems. Up to 80 to 90 per cent in tested environments. That part of the marketing is real.

What is less often discussed: these systems learn from your environment. A new deployment in a complex, high-movement site will not perform like a mature deployment in a controlled environment. It takes time, configuration, and the right site conditions.

The question to ask any vendor making AI claims is not whether their system uses AI. It is: what has it been trained on, how long before it knows our site, and what is the false alarm rate in a comparable environment?

Technology that can answer those questions with specifics is worth looking at. Technology that deflects them with more marketing is not.
