Our Dune Residence is defined by a continuous circular perimeter wall, creating a strong sense of enclosure as the home settles quietly into its coastal setting. Towards the front, this wall gradually sweeps down, opening the residence to the surrounding dune landscape and drawing views towards the sea beyond. The result is a balance of privacy and connection—an otherwise restrained, monolithic form softened through its relationship with the landscape.

Located outside Auckland, New Zealand, our Dune Residence is a new coastal home conceived as a quiet extension of the surrounding dune landscape. Here, the bedroom opens directly towards the ocean, with a sweeping curved wall framing the view and providing a sense of privacy and enclosure. A restrained palette of textured plaster, pale stone and polished concrete draws from the muted tones of the coast, while an overhead oculus introduces changing natural light throughout the day. The architecture is deliberately pared back, allowing landscape, light and material to define the experience of the space.

The façade of our Hanby Residence is defined by restraint and a carefully considered balance of contrast. Conceived as a series of bold, monolithic forms, the architecture establishes a strong sense of permanence and privacy, revealing only glimpses of the spaces beyond.

Rather than relying on ornament, the composition is softened by layers of textured plaster and a verdant landscape that gradually envelops the architecture. Together they create a calm, timeless presence—where strength is balanced by softness, and the home quietly settles into its garden setting.

The kitchen of our Hanby Residence is defined by restraint and a carefully considered balance of contrast. Conceptually, the home began as a composition of bold, monolithic forms—strong enough to evoke a sense of permanence, yet carefully softened through layers of texture and a quiet, sophisticated palette.

A linear skylight extends the length of the space, bathing the kitchen in natural light and revealing the subtle qualities of polished plaster, scratched plaster and natural stone as the day unfolds. Full-height pivot doors then open the room entirely to the adjoining garden, allowing architecture, landscape and light to become one continuous experience.
