A few pep talk podcasts I've really appreciated recently! Courage is a choice, a learned behaviour, built with self-permission and one small lift at a time. And the more chances you take, the more you increase the probability of success. Life is to be tasted!

You're asked: "Where would you like to be braver?" How do you answer?

This is a central question for powerful professional development. And what I know for sure is this question is a gift. Especially when considered in a space offering insights, skills and support and practice to cultivate your professional courage.

The most common answers I hear are:
:: Have an uncomfortable conversation
:: Set boundaries
:: Speak up to my manager
:: Take more risks
:: Move past paralysing perfectionism and overthinking

If any of those challenges resonate with you, you're not alone. Whether you're leading a team or your professional impact as a contributor, we all need support to bring out our best to:

:: Rumble with the discomfort of risk, uncertainty and emotional exposure
:: Get clarity about our values and the behaviours that support them
:: Use language to cultivate curiosity and connection over judgment
:: Build trust within ourselves and our teams
:: Get back up after a setback

The good news is these are teachable, learnable skills. And you don't need to go it alone.

The first Dare to Lead™ public program for 2026 starts on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, and spaces are filling up quickly.

A life well led isn't free of discomfort, mistakes or difficulty. Rather, it's knowing that these are inevitabilities. Our very human task is to tenderly ride the wave. Acknowledge the rage. Feel the heartache. Witness the shame.

And then remember that we're not alone. We're alive and part of the human race. All of us, riding together. Your wave cresting, mine crashing. Your sea receding, mine surging. Both swirling the ocean, tides tided.

Hope holds hands, helping us to stay afloat and ease the drag of the second suffering. Gifting us connection. Shoring us here.
Together.

"We often suffer twice: first from life's difficulties, and then the shame of believing we shouldn't struggle at all. We expect to be calm, confident and fulfilled - and feel isolated when we fall short. But our flaws and disappointments aren't personal failures; they're part of what it means to be human." -

How lucky to have lived while Dr Jane Goodall did.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lucky to have been gifted her leadership, her tenacity, her love and care.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lucky to have seen someone love what they do, for the good of all, for all of their life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lucky to witness what good ancestry looks like, as it ripples across the world, for generations.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lucky to hold her activism, energy, hope and love in our hearts and minds as we dig into active hope together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you for being a difficult woman, and showing us what is possible.

I listened to this podcast a few weeks ago with clinical psychologist Emily Anhalt being interviewed about her book "Emotional Fitness". Taking care of ourselves - seeking support, expanding our self-awareness and developing emotional wellbeing skills are paradoxically some of the most selfless things we can do - because when I take care of me, I'm in much better shape to show up to you.

08/10/2024

This is probably one of the most important insights for leaders in the Dare to Lead™ program. Because leadership is not about being fearless, but rather recognising our reaction to fear, uncertainty, risk and exposure and consciously choosing a response.

Self-awareness is how we grow our personal mastery, and claim power in how we show up, spend our days and invest our energy. Ironically, self-awareness most often needs connection with empathic others to flourish.

Come sit with an intimate group of leaders as we cultivate daring leadership in the arenas of our lives.

Our final Dare to Lead™ public program starts Wednesday 16 October 2024, and is accessible to leaders everywhere.

01/09/2024

I think there is no more important work in the world, in our communities, in our careers, in our families, in our lives, than the work of self-awareness. Of acknowledging our values, beliefs, hopes and dreams. And also our biases, our shame triggers, our sh*tty stories we tell ourselves, and our fears.

Imagine if could meet each other in a space of being human first, above all else.

I envision a world where we all have the opportunity to explore the common humanity we all share. No more 'othering'. Less need for armouring. Unplugging power 'overing'. Eradicating dehumanising.

I wish for us all to be equipped with the inner development skills to create societies of safety, equity, generosity, care, love courage, accountability and compassion. Human first.

Grateful for these words from Angel Kyodo Williams (from the Podcast): "For us to transform as a society, we have to allow ourselves to be transformed as individuals. And for us to be transformed as individuals, we have to allow for the incompleteness of any of our truths and a real forgiveness for the complexity of human beings." -

We all have a very strong 'loss aversion' bias - we fear what we might lose if we set a boundary, have a difficult conversation, express our worries, share an idea, admit a mistake, offer a different perspective, do something uncomfortable.We get so good at avoiding loss, that we often fail to consider what we might gain.

What might be made possible by trying something new, letting go of outdated beliefs, suggesting an alternative, expressing a need, seeking clarification, checking an assumption, setting a boundary, taking a leap or asking for what we want?

It's normal to fear failure. But the real fear is staying suck there. Research shows we regret much more the risks we didn't take, over the risks we did. The odds are in favour of courage.

Take the leap. Choose courage.

I’ve read online that , our favourite fictional football coach is returning for an unexpected fourth season. This quote by Australian sports psychologist reminds me of what I loved most about Ted’s coaching style, and what I aspire to bring to every webinar and online program I run:

“The breakthroughs in someone’s performance, or spike in joy, confidence and fulfilment, don’t just come from thinking, or from evidence and theories. In a relationship or a group, they come from having enough love in the room - a vibe of genuine warmth, close relationship and a desire for the person to find their best.”

Because our best performances are always born from the love of the people who care for our well-being, our agency, our impact and our future.

What does leading with love look like for you? How do you know when the people you work with care about you? How do you know when they don’t? How does your performance change when you know you’re treated with warmth and care?

What did I miss from the second slide?
