We’re excited to see the Zero Emissions Bus Trial project selected as a state finalist for the Australian Institute of Project Management (Tasmanian chapter) - 2023 Project Management Achievement Awards, in the Sustainable Projects category! We’re proudly supporting the delivery of the project with Metro Tasmania.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement in program and project management.

The project involves concurrent operational trials of three battery electric buses in Launceston and three hydrogen fuel cell electric buses in Hobart. The project heralds the first commercial use of sustainable green hydrogen in Tasmania and is key to the State’s target of net zero emissions by 2030.

Well done to everyone involved!

The Hydrogen Bus Demonstration Project is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania.

Great to see these bridges constructed and connecting local communities.

pitt&sherry designed the two bridges, a 12m span skew bridge and a 10m span bridge, and road approaches for Wingecarribee Shire Council as a part of Transport for NSW's Fixing Country Bridges Program. They replaced ageing timber bridges.

Congrats to the whole team, and everyone who contributed to the project! 👏

pitt&sherry proudly sponsored the Tasmanian Energy Development Conference last week in Devonport. Government, project proponents, and operators gathered to discuss the huge potential for Tasmania and beyond in Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

Robert Nicholson, General Manager – Energy, presented on ‘Planning for Success in Renewable Energy Developments’. He commented on the importance of investing both time and money in the early stages of project development and the approvals process. This can be done by undertaking critical “Fatal Flaws” analyses on projects to identify potential barriers before the approvals process and/or investing in the development of engineering designs to enable the provision of detailed information when submitting project approval applications. Early stakeholder and community engagement were also agreed on as a critical aspect of project development.

The conference discussed exciting projects in the emerging fuels sector with green hydrogen and methanol project development in Tasmania some of the highlights.

Well done to everyone involved for an insightful event.

At pitt&sherry we’re committed to gender equality on International Women’s Day and every day.

This year’s UN Women Australia’s theme is ‘Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future’, focusing on furthering access to education and digital communication, and improving the gender disparity in STEM fields.

In 2022 in Australia, women only make up 36% of university enrolments in STEM courses. Across all STEM industries, only 27% of the workforce and 23% of senior management positions are women.

pitt&sherry is working to help fix this.

We have over eighty women at all levels of our business and in all fields. From leadership positions to enabling services and technical teams; women have made incredible contributions to pitt&sherry and are essential to our thriving business today.

So, how are we striving to crack the code? Some of the steps we’re taking are:
◾ Making flexible working available to all our people at all levels
◾ Expanding our parental leave options, with no waiting period and including pre-natal, fertility, and miscarriage leave
◾ Extending our carer’s leave policies
◾ Conducting pay equity reviews to support fair and equitable pay and career progression opportunities
◾ And exploring how we can support pathways for women and girls in education to STEM careers.

Today, we’re spotlighting some of the incredible women at pitt&sherry who are driving us to crack the code towards a gender-equal future.

We were thrilled to sponsor the 2023 Vertical Development Conference, organised by the Eastern Australia Ground Control Group (EAGCC) last week in Hobart.

A huge congratulations to Delia Sidea and Peter Hills, who presented at the event on 'Learnings from over 20 years of vertical development geotechnical assessments' and 'Gathering data for shaft stability analysis.'

Clint Scott and pitt&sherry’s acting General Manager of Mining, Leah Brown also attended the event.

Leah commented, “it was wonderful to attend the workshop in Hobart. There was a real buzz in the air as Geotechnical professionals from around the country met to share knowledge, new developments and case studies on shaft sinking, raise boring and other vertical development issues from the mining, civil construction and pumped hydro industries.”

Thanks to EAGCC for hosting an amazing event.
