Plasma cut parameters are highly dependent on the material and thickness being cut. Operators who don’t follow the specifications closely often end up experiencing shortened parts life and reduced cut quality. Avoid this issue by checking your operator’s manual to ensure that you are using the correct parameters.

Changes in gas flow, pressure, or amperage can alter plasma arc characteristics and affect both your consumable life and cut quality. ⏩ So what can you do? For starters, refer to your operator’s manual for the proper cut-flow gas settings that's specific to the process you are using. Check your gas flow and pressure levels daily to ensure the correct amount of gas is reaching your plasma torch too.

“I love the Long torch. It’s a lot faster than oxy and I don’t need to carry a striker in my pocket to light it, like I did with the oxytorch. It keeps my back and knees from hurting because I don’t have to bend over or squat,” explains Billy Cherry, a welder and machine operator at Hokes Bluff Welding and Fab in Gadsden, AL (shown in photo). “I can move as quickly as the HPR260XD [automated plasma], so cutting scrap can be done immediately after a profile is cut. Then I can load another plate with little to no downtime.”
