Every medicine we rely on today was once an unanswered question.

Could this treatment work? Is it safe? Could it change someone's life?

At Griffith University's Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), researchers, clinicians and trial participants are helping answer those questions and bring new treatment possibilities closer to patients.

From investigating a potential world-first chlamydia vaccine to exploring new approaches for osteoarthritis and other chronic conditions, the CTU is contributing to research that could make a real difference to people's lives.

As we celebrate 25 years of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, we're highlighting the people and partnerships behind this work, and the growing clinical research capabilities right here on the Gold Coast.

It's also a conversation we're looking forward to continuing at AusBiotech International Conference 2026, where Professor Evelin Tiralongo , Director of the Griffith University Clinical Trial Unit, will join a panel discussion exploring the future of clinical research and innovation.

What would make you move to the other side of the world for your career? 🌏

For Dr Ronak Reshamwala and Dr Francesca Oieni, it was the opportunity to work on research that could one day change the lives of people living with spinal cord injury.

Ronak came from India. Francesca from Italy. Both found their way to Griffith University and the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, where they're part of a multidisciplinary team working towards a shared goal.

But there's more to their story than the research.

It's about finding people who share your passion, working in an environment where collaboration happens naturally, and building a life you love outside work.

As Ronak puts it, “This place gives you everything.”

What if you could go from a high school student to a leading researcher without ever leaving the ecosystem where your journey began?

That's exactly the kind of pathway being created within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

At Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus, students aren't just studying science. They're learning within a precinct surrounded by world-class researchers, clinicians, university students and innovators, giving them a window into where their own curiosity could one day lead.
And there is already proof of what's possible.

In this incredible video created by Queensland Academy for Health Sciences, Griffith University researchers Dr Antony McNamee and Professor Michael Simmonds share their perspectives on mentorship, collaboration and the importance of investing in the next generation of scientists and innovators.

As the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games come to a close, it's the perfect time to celebrate the people and environment behind so many incredible performances.

Griffith University athletes finished the Games with 39 medals, including 21 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze, continuing Griffith's extraordinary legacy of success on the international stage 🏅 🥳 👏

But this story isn't about medals.

It's about the environment that helps make those achievements possible.

Behind every performance is a community of coaches, educators, researchers and mentors, led by Griffith Sports College, helping student-athletes pursue excellence in both sport and study.

As Brisbane 2032 approaches, the Gold Coast's role as a centre for high-performance sport continues to grow. The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct has long brought together education, research, healthcare and elite sport, creating a strong foundation for the city's next chapter.

There's something really special about taking time out of a busy week to get together.

Yesterday, friends from across the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct came together for a community BBQ in the park. It was a chance to catch up with familiar faces, meet some new ones and enjoy a well-earned break in the sunshine.

We even threw in a game of Human Bingo, which proved to be a fun way to start conversations with people you might not have met before.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. It's moments like these that remind us our greatest strength isn't just what we do, it's the community we're building together.

219 patients. Two days. Five kilometres.

Those numbers tell the story of one of Australia's largest hospital relocations.
What they don't capture is the months of planning, the hundreds of clinicians and support staff, and the shared commitment to ensuring every patient arrived safely at their new hospital.

The opening of Gold Coast University Hospital in 2013 didn't just transform healthcare on the Gold Coast. It strengthened education, accelerated research and brought to life a vision that had been years in the making.
