WalkerAg Consultancy With 20+ years experience across North West Tasmania, the most diverse agricultural area in Australi

28/03/2025

After 8 years of successfully running WalkerAg Consultancy, it is with great consideration and some regret that I have decided to dissolve my independent agricultural consultancy business.

The reason behind this very hard decision is that over the past few years we have established a vineyard on our family property on the North West Coast of Tasmania in a relatively unknown place called Spalford.

We are in the process of building a cellar door and will be opening Rusty Roof Vineyard on the 1st of November this year.

Whilst I will be keeping WalkerAg Consultancy active in a smaller capacity looking after my Victorian based clients, Premium Fresh Tasmania and YUM Tasmanian, I have had to reduce a large number of my clients so that I can have time to grow our next exciting venture, Rusty Roof Vineyard.

I have thoroughly enjoyed building WalkerAg Consultancy from nothing to a very successful independent agricultural consultancy business and I will miss my valued clients greatly.

Thank you all for the support you have given me over the years and I look forward to sharing our w**e with you in the future.

Please check out our Rusty Roof Vineyard page and follow us into the next chapter of our journey.

Tim Walker.

Recently Cradle Coast NRM teamed up with Ag Logic to share the values of a great bit of local weather station tech installed at various locations in our NW Region (includes Spalford) to help farmers and Agonomists plan irrigation and spray programs, also monitor moisture stored deeper in the soil profile in multi sp cover crops. For more info on how you can access these systems, let us know, or contact Lauren Viney at [email protected] or Ali Dugand at [email protected]

Breaker crop emergence, drilled into ex barley, a multi species with legumes and cereals, all sorts of root structure, wicked erosion control, improving soil structure between crops. Our soils in NW Tas really do work hard, so important to restore them, and this mix does most of the cultivating for you ahead of the next crop, a keep it simple low cost option. NB: It's important to terminate it before seed set, around knee height.

Consider millet as part of your forage options. Traditionally a warmer climate crop, however sown in late Spring to early Summer can be a good fit for NW Tas milder climate, that is changing. The first frost may well slow it down, but for now these cows are loving it.

The planting to emergence period for potatoes usually takes around three weeks, will vary based on weather. Checking sprout emergence here to plan for pre emergent w**d control, as usual, timing is key.
