The Face Behind the Framework.

I spend a lot of time talking about DISC style, but not always about the person interpreting them.

This year, I stepped in front of the camera to show the face behind the DISC Reports and Workshops I love doing.

Working with teams and leaders using DISC is about much more than colours, animals and letters. Itโ€™s about interpreting human behaviour through the lens of empathy, insight, and context.

Sheโ€™s gentle and loyal (like an S), yet playful and sociable (like an I). Sheโ€™ll cuddle up quietly beside me during Zoom calls, but absolutely loves going out and basking in the attention that strangers give her. ๐Ÿ˜†

Today is International Day of Play. Mums and dads of LinkedIn โžก๏ธ did you know how your child chooses to play could reveal their DISC style?

Even at a young age, our natural personality tendencies start showing up. If youโ€™ve ever watched kids on a playground, you know what I mean.

Read on to learn about how each DISC style might naturally choose to play? ๐Ÿ› You might just spot your child (or your inner child) in one of these.

๐ŸŽฏ D-Style (Dominant), The Competitor
"Letโ€™s race. First one to the top wins!"
These are the assertive (some say boisterous), fast-paced kids who want to lead the game (and change the rules if theyโ€™re not winning). They thrive on challenge, enjoy winning, and get bored quickly.
Youโ€™ll spot them organising obstacle courses or turning a casual walk into a competition.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ I-Style (Influential), The Performer
"Everyone! Look what I can do!"
High-energy, imaginative, and highly social, these kids are the entertainers and chatterboxes of the playground.
They love group games, storytelling, dress-ups, and anything with an audience. They're also great at making new friends, fast!

๐Ÿงฉ S-Style (Steady), The Collaborator
"You be the mum, Iโ€™ll be the dad, and letโ€™s take care of the baby."
Gentle, cooperative, and relationship-focused, S-style children love playing with people they trust.
Youโ€™ll often find them in small, safe groups doing role-play, building Lego together, or spending time with a best friend, quietly and kindly.
(As a child, I role-played with my dolls... a lot! And spent heaps of time going over to play with the neighbour's kids.)

Precise, thoughtful, and independent, these kids prefer structured, quiet play.
Puzzles, reading books, constructing models with intricate designs, or anything with a logical system fascinate them. Theyโ€™re deep thinkers and often prefer solo play where they have full control.

That was just one of the powerful reflections shared during last Fridayโ€™s DISC Workshop with co-facilitated with Experience Gold Coast.

In 60 minutes, we unpacked how understanding behavioural preferences through DISC can completely transform the way we communicate, collaborate, and connect, especially in fast-paced teams and early-stage careers.
