The Face Behind the Framework.

I spend a lot of time talking about DISC style, but not always about the person interpreting them.

This year, I stepped in front of the camera to show the face behind the DISC Reports and Workshops I love doing.

Working with teams and leaders using DISC is about much more than colours, animals and letters. It’s about interpreting human behaviour through the lens of empathy, insight, and context.

📸 This photoshoot felt like a reset -- a reminder that people want to connect with people, not just PDFs.

Today is National Take Your Dog to Work Day. 🎉 The perfect day to celebrate our furry companions and promote pet adoption. 🐾

Do you know your dog comes with behavioural traits too? (Sorry cat lovers, no felines are featured my post today.) 🐱💔

🐕‍🦺 D-Style (Dominance): German Shepherd
Confident, assertive, and natural-born protectors. They like to be in charge, get things done, and will let you know if something’s not right (whether it’s a possum or a slow-moving meeting.) 💪🚨

🐕 I-Style (Influence): Golden Retriever
Friendly, fun-loving, and the ultimate social butterfly. Loves being around people, thrives on attention, and will wag their tail at just about anyone. 🌟✨

🤗 S-Style (Steadiness): Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Gentle, affectionate, and all about harmony. They’re loyal companions, love routines, and bring a sense of calm wherever they go. 💕☮️

🧠 C-Style (Conscientiousness): Border Collie
Focused, analytical, and task-oriented. They’re smart, thrive with structure, and love solving problems (like how to get the ball out from under the couch). 🎯🔍

And then there’s my little Westie (also my Chief Happiness Officer) 👑, she exhibits a sweet and beautiful blend of S and I styles. She’s gentle and loyal (like an S), yet playful and sociable (like an I). She’ll cuddle up quietly beside me during Zoom calls, but absolutely loves going out and basking in the attention that strangers give her. 😆

Today is International Day of Play. Mums and dads of LinkedIn ➡️ did you know how your child chooses to play could reveal their DISC style?

Even at a young age, our natural personality tendencies start showing up. If you’ve ever watched kids on a playground, you know what I mean.

Read on to learn about how each DISC style might naturally choose to play? 🛝 You might just spot your child (or your inner child) in one of these.

🎯 D-Style (Dominant), The Competitor
"Let’s race. First one to the top wins!"
These are the assertive (some say boisterous), fast-paced kids who want to lead the game (and change the rules if they’re not winning). They thrive on challenge, enjoy winning, and get bored quickly.
You’ll spot them organising obstacle courses or turning a casual walk into a competition.

🗣️ I-Style (Influential), The Performer
"Everyone! Look what I can do!"
High-energy, imaginative, and highly social, these kids are the entertainers and chatterboxes of the playground.
They love group games, storytelling, dress-ups, and anything with an audience. They're also great at making new friends, fast!

🧩 S-Style (Steady), The Collaborator
"You be the mum, I’ll be the dad, and let’s take care of the baby."
Gentle, cooperative, and relationship-focused, S-style children love playing with people they trust.
You’ll often find them in small, safe groups doing role-play, building Lego together, or spending time with a best friend, quietly and kindly.
(As a child, I role-played with my dolls... a lot! And spent heaps of time going over to play with the neighbour's kids.)

🧠 C-Style (Conscientious), The Engineer
"I’m building a train set. Don’t touch it."
Precise, thoughtful, and independent, these kids prefer structured, quiet play.
Puzzles, reading books, constructing models with intricate designs, or anything with a logical system fascinate them. They’re deep thinkers and often prefer solo play where they have full control.

👀 Why Does This Matter?

Understanding your child’s DISC style can help you support how they naturally like to learn, connect, and recharge, not how you think they should.
And just like in the workplace, when we honour people’s natural wiring, communication flows, collaboration improves, and everyone feels seen.

Happy National Doughnut Day, everyone! 🍩

Did you know this sweet holiday started back in 1938? The Salvation Army created it to honour volunteers who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

Now, imagine a brand new doughnut shop has just opened in town. How would each DISC style react? Let’s just say… their orders reveal a lot about them. 😏

👑 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗 (𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲)
Walks straight up to the counter. No fluff.
“𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳? 𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰.”
Their pick? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴, an espresso-glazed delight with a chilli kick. Because why have sugar when you can have caffeine and spice?

🎉 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜 (𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲)
Bounces in, phone already out. “𝘖𝘔𝘎, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦!”
They’ll ask the server what their favourite is, chat to other customers, and leave with a mixed box (for the Instagram story, obviously).
Their choice? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗲. It's got rainbow glaze, edible glitter, extra sprinkles. If it doesn’t blind you with joy, it’s not sweet enough.

Takes their time, scans the menu twice, then turns to you. “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨?”
Their go-to? The Classic Glaze or the Cinnamon Doughnut, because it's simple, reliable, and always good. Just like them.

📊 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖 (𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀)
Scans all the doughnut options and reviews the allergy info.
“𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤? 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰?”
Their pick? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝗽𝘆. It has a balanced flavour, not too sweet, and definitely not messy. Precision matters, even in pastries.

“𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯… 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘸.”

That was just one of the powerful reflections shared during last Friday’s DISC Workshop with co-facilitated with Experience Gold Coast.

(A massive thanks to Natalie Moloney and Dr. Samantha Kilmartin for this amazing opportunity to inspire and share my favourite topic!)

In 60 minutes, we unpacked how understanding behavioural preferences through DISC can completely transform the way we communicate, collaborate, and connect, especially in fast-paced teams and early-stage careers.

💡 Only 2 out of the 17 grads had heard of DISC before.

But by the end, all walked away with lightbulb moments.

They shared some of their biggest takeaways:

This , we’re matching iconic characters with their likely DISC styles. Because even in a galaxy far, far away... personality matters.

🔴 D – Darth Vader
Driven, commanding, and focused on results—Vader doesn’t waste time with small talk. He takes control, makes swift decisions, and leads with power (and a little intimidation). Classic high-D.

🟡 I – Han Solo
Charming, persuasive, and full of swagger. Han brings the energy, improvises in tough situations, and talks his way out of trouble. High-I with a blaster and a wink.

🟢 S – Luke Skywalker
Loyal, dependable, and focused on harmony. Luke values connection and peace, and takes time to understand others—even Vader. His calm, steady nature shines through his Jedi training. Hello, high-S.

Understanding your team's stress responses can be your secret weapon! 🚀

Under pressure, each DISC profile responds differently:

🔴 D-styles take charge and make quick decisions
🟡 I-styles communicate and seek connection
🟢 S-styles look for stability and consistency
🔵 C-styles analyse details to find solutions

When stress hits your team, these different approaches can either clash or complement each other.

The key is understanding that these aren't wrong reactions. They're just different strategies!

I started my random act last night by trying to help an elderly non-English speaking neighbour retrieve his runaway cat 🐈‍⬛. Sadly Diego simply refused to be caught and disappeared into the bushes. 🤦‍♀️
