This month we celebrate a significant milestone. Christina, our General Manager, marks her 10th anniversary with FWO.

Christina is someone who does not just understand our values, she lives them. Open in the way she leads, courageous in the decisions she makes, unwavering in her commitment to the team and our clients and always looking for a better way forward.

As our Director, Matt Schlyder, puts it:
"Christina is the backbone of FWO. She brings a level of dedication and care to everything she does that is genuinely rare. Ten years on, I am still grateful that she is part of this firm."

Ten years is a long time. That Christina has given that time to FWO says everything about who she is.

Congratulations, Christina. Thank you for a decade of showing all of us what it looks like to truly live our values.

Tomorrow, June 16, at 12:00pm, FWO is hosting a free webinar for SME law firms: Setting fee earner targets for next financial year.

As the new financial year approaches, now is the right time to review how your firm sets, communicates and tracks fee earner targets.

Clear targets help firms move away from guesswork and frustration. They give fee earners a better understanding of what is expected, while helping principals and practice managers gain better visibility over performance, profitability and cash flow.

In this practical session, Matt Schlyder will share how law firms can take a more structured approach to fee earner targets, including:

• How to set targets that are realistic and measurable
• How to align targets with profit and cash flow goals
• How to identify whether performance issues are caused by people, processes or systems
• How better reporting can support visibility and accountability

FWO has worked with law firms across Australia for more than 30 years, helping firms improve profitability, strengthen cash flow and make better financial decisions with confidence.

Join us tomorrow at 12:00pm.

A Sydney law firm came to us two years ago. They were working hard. The profit just wasn't reflecting it.

We got into the detail with them - looked at what was actually driving performance, got them set up with monthly visibility through MiNumbers, and became the kind of partner who shows up with answers before the questions are even asked.

Not a once-a-year tax conversation. A proper ongoing relationship.

Two years later: at least 25% increase in income and profitability. Same cost base.

Their Managing Partner said it gave him the confidence to make decisions he'd been putting off. That's what we're here for.

If that sounds like what your firm needs, let's talk.

Are your fee earner targets helping your firm move forward, or creating more confusion?

For many law firms, targets are set each year, but fee earners may not clearly understand how the numbers were calculated, what they need to do day to day, or how their performance is being measured.

This can make it harder for law firms to identify where performance is really being lost.

Is it a people issue?
A process issue?
A billing issue?
A reporting issue?
Or a systems issue?

In our free upcoming webinar, Setting fee earner targets for next financial year, Matt Schlyder will walk through a practical approach to setting fee earner targets that are clear, realistic and connected to your firm’s profitability and cash flow goals.

Join us on Tuesday 16 June at 12:00pm.

We’re proud to support Wesley Mission Queensland and the incredible work they do through the Brisbane Relief Hub.

WMQ recently shared their Emergency Relief Impact Report 2024/25 with us - and the numbers show just how much this support is needed in our community.

Over the past year, the Hub has provided:
16,840 community meals
5,031 food hampers
8,118 snack packs
695 medical prescription vouchers
Mental health support to 794 people
Help with rent arrears and utility bills for 87 people
Christmas gifts to 270 children through the Red Bag Appeal

These aren’t just statistics. They represent real people, real families, and real moments where someone needed help and was met with kindness.

Crisis can touch anyone; through rising living costs, illness, family breakdown, loss of work or unexpected hardship.

That’s why WMQ’s Give the Gift of Hope Appeal is so important. The appeal aims to raise $50,000 to provide crucial emergency relief support for people doing it tough.

Members of the FWO CA team are proud to volunteer with WMQ, and we’d love to help amplify their message.

You can learn more or support the appeal here:

Every dollar helps someone in our community feel seen, supported and not forgotten.

Have you set your fee earner targets for the new financial year?
For SME law firms, we know the value comes from setting targets that are clear, realistic, understood by the team, and linked to your firm’s profitability and cash flow goals.

When targets are set well, firm leaders can create clearer expectations, reduce confusion around performance, and gain better visibility over the revenue needed to support the business.

In our upcoming free webinar, Setting fee earner targets for next financial year, Matt Schlyder will share a practical approach to setting targets that help fee earners understand what is expected, while giving firms better visibility over performance.

"If you want different results, start with your work in progress."

It’s not always the number firms focus on first.

But WIP sits at the centre of how a law firm performs. It connects the work being done today to the results that follow.

When you focus on the right drivers, outcomes become far more predictable.

Most law firms don’t have a reporting problem.

More often, it’s a timing problem.

By the time you’re reviewing your numbers, the decisions that shaped them have already been made.

That’s where reactive accounting can fall short.

What tends to make the biggest difference is understanding what to do next, not just what happened last quarter.

That shift, from reporting to forward-looking advice, is where we often see firms start to gain real control.

Sometimes the most important advisory work happens behind the scenes.

One example that stood out recently was a client who had fallen behind on tax obligations and needed help getting things back on track. Our team worked through the situation step by step, helping them stabilise their position and move forward with clarity.

Good advice isn’t just about reporting numbers. It’s about helping clients navigate the difficult moments too.

We extend our congratulations to all the AccountantsDaily Rising Stars Awards 2026 winners and finalists, and we’re incredibly proud of Iris Ho’s recognition as a finalist.

Reflecting on the evening, Iris shared:
“The best part of the night was being surrounded by so many outstanding accountants from across Australia, enjoying the conversation, the dinner, and celebrating the collective efforts and achievements of emerging professionals. The Rising Star Awards reminded us just how much talent there is in our industry.”

Recognition at this level is no small achievement. To be shortlisted alongside such an impressive group speaks volumes about Iris’s commitment, capability, and the impact she continues to make.
