At Acacia we’re proud to play a leading role in protecting and restoring Victoria’s diverse landscapes. Whether it be grasslands across the western plains, riparian communities along the Birrarung, or temperate rainforests in the Yarra Valley, our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality environmental outcomes with care and integrity.

From large-scale restoration to long-term land management or environmental consulting, our work is guided by science, collaboration, and respect for Country. What truly sets us apart is the people behind the projects, a team who combines deep ecological expertise with a hands-on understanding of the land.

We’re continually inspired by the places we work and the partnerships we build. Every project reminds us why we do what we do, to help nature thrive and to leave a positive legacy for future generations. 🌱

With only a few hundred charming spider orchids left in the wild, the species' complex relationships with other organisms are thought to be hindering its survival.

Acacia are extremely proud to be involved in this project!
Acacia designed and constructed the pest exclusion plot in preparation for the planting, and in the future we will be assisting all stakeholders in maintaining and caring for the plants. From pest and w**d control, to cross pollinations and plantings with hopes to bring in the orchid's natural pollinator and achieve new recruitment of plants across the site.

Meet “Beaky”, the Rock'n'Roll Echidna!
At first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking this little one was dressing up as the singing Porcupine in the 'Sing' movies, but that's not a nose ring that Beaky's rocking right here.
Beaky was rescued by an Acacia crew after they spotted him on a site in Hurstbridge, and realised he had a rubber band stuck on his beak! He needed surgery, but recovered beautifully and was released back to his home.
Just another reason we're so proud of our colleagues, who work so hard to protect our natural environment!

One of our Crew members came across this bower recently, the work of the Bowerbird.
Found throughout Australia and New Guinea, Bowerbirds are known for the elaborate structures that males build to attract mates. These bowers are the largest and most elaborately decorated structure built by any animal - aside from humans - which is why they are often thought of as the most advanced of all birds.
Once a prospective mate comes to inspect the bower, the male Bowerbird performs a song and dance, in the hopes of 'sealing the deal'.
As bowers are on the ground, loss of habitat because of land clearing is a significant threat.
This is why the work we do at Acacia, to preserve habitats for our amazing wildlife, is so important.
If it's also important to you, maybe you should come join one of our crews!

As we move into the colder, damper weather wild mushrooms of all types start to pop up. This one was photographed by one of our crew members, along a creek in Warburton recently.
Whether you know it as "Amanita Muscaria", "Fly Agaric", or the "Mario Mushroom", you've probably come across images of this eye-catching wild mushroom before 🍄.
It has been represented in fairy stories, Alice In Wonderland, Super Mario Bros. - it even has folklore associated with Father Christmas and his flying reindeer!
As pretty as they are, these mushrooms are classed as toxic - and it's a great reminder not to collect and eat mushrooms in the wild unless you are properly trained, as the side effects can be very serious, even fatal.
As Donal Henahan said, "On the subject of wild mushrooms, it is easy to tell who is an expert and who is not: The expert is the one who is still alive"

We have the best people working at Acacia. This story comes from Jacques - Project Supervisor extraordinaire:

"We rescued a baby Ringtail possum today in Yellingbo where we are kicking off a huge planting for the survival of the Helmeted honeyeater and Leadbeater's possum.
As we were leaving site we noticed a baby possum that was on the road and completely disoriented.
(Crew Member) Lily drives past a rescue animal clinic and offered to take it there.
Another win for the wildlife at Acacia. ❤️"

Thanks Jacques and Lily, always making us proud!

Just like this Gippsland Water Dragon, our Crews at Acacia are "semi-aquatic"....that is to say, that they don't only spend time on land, but can be found looking after waterways, riverbanks and wetlands as well.
We're looking for people with many and varied skillsets, so if you have qualifications or an interest in any aspect of environmental care and are looking for work, hit us up via the link below:

"Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations." - National Geographic.

When we get photographs like this - in a Conservation Reserve that our crews work diligently to maintain - we are proudly reminded of our part in protecting our natural resources.

If you can, be like this little frog and get out into nature this week, to connect with the many gifts this Earth provides.

One of our awesome Project Supervisors has a knack with a camera - and with putting wildlife at ease.
He was working deep in the bush - in Emerald Lake Park - and stumbled upon this Mumma Wallaby and her Joey. He was able to get right up close without them being bothered by his presence, so he was able to get this wonderful photo!
If working in, and up close to nature and wildlife is for you, get in contact with us via the link below:
