Hey guys

Just finished this job off for a bloke who want to build a Holden 355. A lot of machining went in the core and heads. A lot of dummy setups to make sure everything will be fine, due to the customer and his father wanting to do the final build.

A quick run down
*torque plate bore and hone 0.020” over
*deck with 0.005” piston to deck height
*close and hone on mains
*full balanced 355- S**t crank, s**t I beam rods and chev 383 flat top pistons
* oil gallery modified No1 and No4 cam journal
* VN cylinder heads surfaced 0.015” to acquire 59cc
* valve spring pockets machined to suite posi seals and an extra 0.098” deeper to suite upgrade valve springs requiring 1.800” installed height
*cut seats and relap valve to seats
*Clearance bottom of the bores for I beam rods
* 0.050” off crank counterweights for crank to block clearance
And the list goes on

Also all parts were brand new and no need to think how much fatigue they have. S**t, Yella Terra, Powerbond, CrowCams, ARP etc.

Crow also knock up a custom ground Hyd. Flat tappet cam and all supporting components.

Now for the guys to assemble and fit it into his torri and enjoy

Another Looney’s Pro Building Blocks done and dusted

Hey Peeps

This is part 2 of the Holden 304 6/71 blown motor.

Just a recap of the first.

We built something with some parts not only supplied but poor quality. Showed the customer what was the issue on dyno day. Given to go ahead to upgrade parts. And the rest speaks for itself.

So parts upgraded were a Newby Holden 304 blower manifold, a pair of Holley 750cfm HP DP (boost referenced) carbys and reinstalled the MSD Pro Billet distributor. We did still need to modify some parts behind the blower to allow for clearance but a lot less then what we would have needed to with the original parts supplied.

We ended up with 502FWHP@6500rpm and 417.9FtLb@ 5600rpm with only 6.5psi. Total timing locked at 25 degrees.

To say the customer was not only happy with the gain of 110hp but to know it would be super reliable for street dutys.

This block had more to give if the customer ever gets bored of the power.

Hope you enjoy the short vid

Hey Peeps

Happy 2024. So we are still here and fully operating. Been super busy. This build you see here we have been working on late last year and only just got dyno time yesterday.

Before I get asked a million questions about the power levels. Here’s some facts to put into concept. Firstly we build to customer specifications and budget. Secondly we always advise on what will work and what will potentially not work( or cause issues). Thirdly intake blower manifold, 6/71 pro comp supercharger( which I serviced due to some minor issues), twin Holley 600cfm Vac carbys ( boost referenced in-house plus full overhaul) and a Proflow Bosch distributor ( which was locked out, but major issues)supplied by customer. Forth yes customer has agreed to go ahead with the changes after seeing what we told them would happen with some parts that were supplied to us for this build

So quick run down of what this setup is:

Holden 304
Bored 40tho ( due to limited forged pistons availability)
VS spike rods with upgrade 7/16 ARP rod bolts
Closed and hone big ends
Factory stroke VS crank( with 1/4 woodruff key slot machined)
Full balance rotating assembly
Half grout block
PAVTEK main girdle
ARP main studs
Aeroflow high volume sump( customised windage tray for clearance issues with PAVTEK main girdle
JP standard oil pump
Rollmaster dual timing chain kit
ROMAC blower harmonic balancer( dual key- 3/16 & 1/4)
Modified factory timing cover( to suite blower harmonic balancer)
Oil modified on cam tunnel #1 and #4
Custom CrowCam blower solid cam
238/[email protected] 114LSA plus lifters/pushrods and valve train components
Yella Terra Pro street Adj. shaft mount rockers 1.65ratio
Pocket port Holden VS cast iron cylinder heads
3 angle valve job
S/S intake and exhaust Valves 2.02 & 1.60
MSD BTM-6, MSD pro billet distributor ( to be installed once I receive new blower manifold) and MSD blaster 2 coil

Plus much, much more to list but you guys want hear and see the numbers. So it was a true test with what we had to work with. The block itself is pretty good for up to 600F/hp. Unfortunately the best we got was 390hp@5350rpm with 6psi (due to Air Intake temps getting up there) as well as (as timing was erratic jumping from 21 static up 26/28 and down 22 and up to 30 before slowing coming down 16 on short power runs to be safe)

There will be another video( Part 2) to come once new components are installed to replace old ones.

Also if you look at the graph of the power run, everything was still climbing but to make sure we don’t hurt anything kept under 5500rpm. This whole setup is good for up to 6500/6800rpm ( once the new components are fitted- Holley 750 DP boost referenced carbys, Newby blower manifold and the MSD Pro billet we have already in stock.

Overall the customer had learnt a valuable lesson.

Another piece to puzzle completed for the customer’s Holden 202 methanol setup. 1st challenge we had was bringing up the Comp by minimising the CC’s. Most will say why not weld it up or just find a High comp 12 port, well it’s simple. This is what the customer had to work with, so we made it happen. The base line on these chambers were at 48cc and our desired CC’s was at 34. So we ended up shaving off 0.101” to get the desired CC. Now with all this machining we have got the comp up to 14.48:1. This process did take some time but we got it done.

The second part to our jobs was acquiring the right installed height for the valve springs to suite .528” lift. The aftermarket dual springs they had weren’t going to cut it with a 1.700” installed height requirement and still having enough seat pressure. So we came up with a plan with customer who supplied us with LS1 valve springs. Now I’m hindsight these springs do drop straight in but there’s nothing to keep them centralised. So we ordered some valve spring locators to suite both the OD and ID of the spring pad ( with a little machining required) new retainers and collets to suite 202 valves with inter grated with LS1 valve springs. Now his has the right installed height at 1.700” and 135 lb/ft seat pressure which will work well with his .528” solid flat tappet cam.

These are things we strive for. To get you the customer the outcome you want.

Feel free to contact us for your next build and we’ll make it happen

Hi guys

Just an update. We are still operating but obviously with precautions in place due to COVID. Also we now offer full in-house machining on all cylinders heads. Soon to have some more parts to allow out machine to even handle resurfacing cylinder blocks as well as boring and honing.

Here’s a Holden 308 cylinder head we just finished resurfacing. Came up a treat.

Feel free to contact us for your next build. We will be happy to help you.

Have a happy Thursday guys

Hi guys

We thought we send out a few offers. We have worked up some cam packages for the Holden LS motors.
A full cam package starts from $1500. This includes everything you need to do from cam to gaskets included. Now we can do the work but again due to our place not being massive, we can only take on the motor removed from the cars.

Now on the topic of cam packages, we do still supply for all old school holden blocks from 202’s up to 304 blocks wether it’s Carby or EFI applications. These cam packages start from $900( depending on applications and block). Each cam package cam be altered to suite your needs.

Feel free to email us for any further information

We finally got the chance to run in and do a couple power runs on Harley White built 304. Basically a rebuilt bottom end with some top end work. Made 300@4950rpm, some good numbers for a weekender.

Soon to be back in the car and cruising the streets.

Again Westend always helping with the tune.

There’s no job too big or too small that we can’t do.
