“Buying an investment property is like dating,” says REIWA Councillor Clare Christiansen.

“At the start, it’s all fun and exciting and new. But property management is when you’ve hit the marriage stretch.”

For Clare, property management is where the more enduring connections are formed. REIWA’s 2026 Sleeping Bag Appeal is back, supporting Western Australians experiencing homelessness during the colder months.

From Monday 1 June to Friday 3 July, participating agencies will open their doors to collect donations of new or freshly laundered sleeping bags, blankets and other essential items.

We invite our members and community to get involved. Every donation can help provide warmth, comfort and support to someone in need this winter.

May Market Update: The time taken to sell a property in Perth has nearly doubled in the past three months, according to reiwa.com data.

REIWA President Suzanne Brown says the market had eased over the past two months. An increase in new listings, shifting buyer sentiment and three consecutive rate rises have given buyers more choice and made them more discerning.

“As a result of these changes, properties are taking slightly longer to sell,” she says.

From 1 November 2027, the CPP40521 Certificate IV in Strata Community Management will become the minimum qualification required to work as a strata manager in WA.

REIWA Training’s introductory price of $2,200 ends on 30 June 2026, and the course can take up to 24 months to complete, so starting now gives you more time to complete the requirements while locking in the current price.

Yesterday, REIWA CEO Blaine Slater joined Acton Belle Property WA Elevate26 event to discuss the Institute’s perspective on the WA property market, upcoming AML obligations, rental reform and REIWA’s advocacy for members.

Regional market report: Port Hedland leads regional house price growth in March 2026 quarter.

Strong demand, limited supply and major mining investment drove momentum across the regional centre.

“Buyers are a fairly even mix of investors and owner occupiers. Port Hedland is quite attractive for investors as the potential yields are higher than you will find in many other markets," says REIWA Regional Spokesperson Peta McKenzie.

“It is also possible for investment properties to be neutrally or positively geared. Changes to the capital gains tax discount and negative gearing announced in the Federal Budget may also draw more investor attention to regional markets like Port Hedland.”
