We are very proud to have been part of the team with Providence Lifestyle Resorts for the Piara Waters Lifestyle Resort that took out the coveted Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence at UDIA WA 2025 Awards for Excellence!

The Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence is the overall winner of the Awards for Excellence, recognising the highest standards of development within the industry.

Steve Allerding, Director of Allerding & Associates noted:

“Having worked with Russel, it is a great honour to have a project associated with his name, and to receive the highest award offered by UDIA. Special thanks to the team in our office, and particularly Tom Hockley who endured the 7 year journey to achieving approval.”

Selected from the category winners, this is the project the Judges consider to be the ‘Best of the Best’ in Western Australia in 2025, and for the second-year running has been awarded to the winner of the Seniors Living category!

Demonstrating outstanding quality in design and delivery, the sense of pride and community made Piara Waters Lifestyle Resort a clear stand out for the UDIA judges.

Piara Waters features 244 architecturally designed homes nestled within a masterplanned, walkable community. This unique resort offers an alternative to traditional retirement living that is centred on independence, health, and meaningful social connection.

The Southern Cross Wind Farm was recently approved with the Shire of Yilgarn Council voting unanimously to support the project.

The Wind Farm, which comprises the installation of 10 wind turbines and 10 MWH battery storage, was initially subjected to Appeal proceedings in the State Administrative Tribunal associated with the original application to the Regional Joint Development Panel. In parallel to those proceedings, Allerding & Associates secured the planning approval directly through the Shire of Yilgarn via the recently adopted Development Assessment Panel reforms which removed mandatory application thresholds. Tom Hockley of Allerding & Associates who represented the proponent, commended the outcome noting with the support of the Shire of Yilgarn, all outstanding issues were resolved to the satisfaction of all parties, whilst demonstrating safe operations with the Southern Cross Aerodrome would not be compromised by the installation of the turbines.

Steve Allerding noted the approval of the project would provide another important limb for diversified energy options to the South-West Interconnected System market from renewable sources for the benefit of industries and the broader community.

The iconic Charles Hotel site is one step closer to bringing gentrification into the North Perth area with the City of Vincent supporting a Local Development Plan (LDP) over the site for Mixed Use Development.

The site is a landmark comprising over 1.3 hectares in area strategically positioned along Charles Street, less than 5km from the Perth CBD.

The LDP was developed by Allerding & Associates in conjunction with MJA Studio Architects. Steve Allerding, Director of Allerding Associates noted:

"The LDP provides a balanced approach that pays homage to the landmark status of the site, with appropriate levels of density and height along Charles Street of up to eight storeys, graduating to two-three storey development adjacent to existing low-density residential areas west of Charles Street.

The LDP provides for commercial opportunities along the Charles Street/Ellesmere Street intersection framed around a landscaped plaza to provide activation and a regenerated focal point for the North Perth area."

John Williamson of Allerding and Associates attended the meeting and welcomed the unanimous support of the City to allow the opportunity for the regeneration of the site that would also facilitate an important supply of well-located housing options to the Perth market.

The Metro JDAP approved the development of a 108 bed Residential Care Facility in Padbury this morning.

The Facility will be a significant contributor towards reducing the significant shortfall of available residential care accommodation in Joondalup which is under stress with an ageing population.

The proposal accommodates dedicated floors for dementia care and for pensioners to ensure the facility is available and accessible for those in need.

The JDAP acknowledged the significant contribution of the development in terms of its streetscape presentation, landscaping and the importance of providing facilities such as this to be available to the local community.

The facility will be the sixth undertaken by Regents Garden in the Perth Metropolitan Area which follows a number of award winning care facilities that they have undertaken.

Steve Allerding, who attended the JDAP Deputation, paid tribute to the determination of the JDAP as follows:

“We are grateful for the JDAP’s foresight to support the proposal with nearly unanimous support of all JDAP members. The facility will be an important contributor to the supply of much needed Residential Care Facilities in the broader Joondalup area. I am confident that the project will be judged positively by the community for its design aesthetic, landscaping and as a positive landmark that will enable Residential Care Facilities close to existing family populations”.

The project will now proceed to construction drawings and refinements to address the conditions included by JDAP and accepted by Regents Garden.

Allerding & Associates is pleased to announce that approval has been granted by JDAP for the development of a new landmark project entitled Mooro located in the Town of Cottesloe, on the edge of the Swanbourne Village.

We are very proud to be involved with the Mooro proposal. It represents the very first building in Western Australia, and only the second in Australia, for full certification under the globally recognised Living Building Challenge (LBC).

This is significant as it is the most stringent and complete global standard for the assessment of sustainable projects internationally.

Mooro is a Mixed Use development that will become the headquarters for a prominent Western Australian family who are taking strides to create a bespoke example of great architecture and sustainable development. Whilst a Landmark, it is designed as a building of elegant proportions, and its significance will be measured both by its design aesthetic as well as its contribution as a benchmark to other sustainable projects in Western Australia.

These are positive reasons to have such a significant and commendable project within the Town of Cottesloe. Along with our client we have been pleased to have worked with a great project team with architect fitzpatrick + partners, and Lavan Legal.

We look forward to its development in the coming months.

What a perfect time of year for a site visit to the South-West!

Allerding & Associates was recently in the Busselton region undertaking bushfire assessments to accompany a number of planning proposals in the area.

The idyllic setting of the coastal South-West region also provides its challenges for bushfire management and compliance relating to bushland interface, vegetation management and access arrangements.

The experience of our team in handling complex land use and development proposals throughout the region, partnered with our bushfire capabilities, ensures that key risks can be identified early in the process to reduce potential complications during the planning phase of a project.

Our team worked collaboratively with the City of Canning officers in navigating the planning process and securing the necessary approvals to facilitate the development of a contemporary fast-food offering in this location. Development Approval granted! The Metro Inner-South JDAP recently resolved to approve Griffin Group's project comprising a six storey multiple dwelling development within the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan area. Allerding & Associates provided the planning input on the project and worked alongside Carrier and Postmus Architects in achieving this fantastic result. The development comprises 18 apartments across six storeys with rooftop communal amenities which maximise views to the adjacent McDougall Park. The landscaped response to the site which involves the retention of a large Eucalyptus and extensive additional plantings within the site and verge areas will positively contribute to the amenity of the site and its connection to the adjacent parkland.

One of the best parts of our work is coming back to a project a few years later to experience the finished product. A great example of this is the Pachamama Early Education & Childcare and Activity Centre in Lesmurdie. A few years ago Allerding & Associates, with legal input by Moharich and More and traffic advice by Donald Veal Consultants, were successful in securing planning approvals for the upgrade and expansion of Pachamama’s existing facilities. This was a hard fought approval with multiple development applications and ultimately a full hearing before the State Administrative Tribunal.
The result of all the hard work by the operators and their consultant team is this wonderful facility spanning three properties, full of nature play experiences and art installations which makes it such a beautiful and unique environment for the kids, educators and the local community.
Tom Hockley from our office attend Pachamama’s 10 year birthday over the weekend with the kids to congratulate Kristen McPhail and her team on the creation of this amazing space!

Whilst still a work in progress with landscaping yet to be installed, it is great to see the new Music Centre at PLC taking shape, looking very much like the proposed rendered image. It's always wonderful to see our projects post construction.
