Do you often set goals but struggle to follow through?
If that sounds familiar, keep reading. Iโll show you how to become someone who consistently sets and achieves goals.
Many men end up constantly putting out fires in business because they donโt realise that goal-setting is actually a skill you can learn.
When you set goals that match your personal values and your brand, you stop reacting to problems and start leading with purpose.
This leads to steady progress.
Locke and Lathamโs research found that in 90% of studies, people performed better with specific and challenging goals than with easy, vague, or no goals.
This shows something important about leadership.
โข Vague goals create inconsistency.
โข Clear goals create consistent progress.
This is what separates wasting your 8,760 hours each year from using them wisely.
โข One approach is reactive.
โข The other approach is proactive.
Setting clear goals makes things easier on your mind. It even helps your subconscious work for you, day and night.
When your goal is clear, your mind knows where to focus.
Remember: โEnergy flows where attention is chosen.โ
Letโs see how the Outcome Shift framework can help you move from firefighting to scaling your business smarter.
Leading with Purpose
A big part of the Get Performing Program is helping men in business stop thinking like workers or technicians and start leading with their lifeโs purpose.
When you think like a worker or technician, itโs hard to grow your business.
But when you think like a leader, you focus on your purpose and build the structure, systems, and support you need to scale your business.
One of the steps in the Get Performing Program is called The Outcome Shift.
This module helps men understand the formula for simplifying decision-making and getting amazing results in all areas of life.
Leadership thinker Peter Drucker proposed that people perform better when they are clear about the objectives, responsibilities, and measures that guide their work.
The Outcome Shift helps you and your team get on the same page.
The Outcome Shift
Letโs use a simple, smarter scaling example.
Step One: Focus
First, we focus on the outcome.
The question we ask is:
What is the ecological outcome we are looking to achieve?
This means the outcome must be good for you, good for others, and good for the greater good.
But your goal should also push you to grow, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
For example:
1. Upgrading the client onboarding journey, making it easy to get started,
2. Strengthening our operational systems, so all clients see consistent progress each week,
3. Creating an effective marketing system to onboard 30% more ideal clients.โ
This gives your mind a clear direction.
1. A number.
2. A deadline.
3. A clear flow.
Because defining the right outcome is where a big part of your psychological petrol gets used.
Step Two: Organisation
Once the outcome is clear, we get organised.
The next step is to reduce the cognitive load by breaking the outcome down into phases.
The question we ask is:
What are the phases needed to achieve this outcome?
Using the outcome example above:
Phase One: Upgrade the Client Onboarding Journey
By (day/month/year), we will have upgraded the client onboarding journey so that new clients can get started more easily, and the business will be ready to handle 30% more ideal clients.
Phase Two: Strengthen the Operational Systems
By (day/month/year), we will have upgraded the program support systems so that all clients can easily experience consistent progress every week.
Phase Three: Design an Effective Marketing System
By (day/month/year), we will have created an effective marketing system that enables the business to consistently attract, convert, follow up with, and onboard 30% more ideal clients.
At this point, the outcome no longer feels overwhelming.
It turns into a simple roadmap.
And when a man has a simple roadmap, he has an organised mind.
Step Three: Progress
Have you ever heard the saying, โtrust the processโ?
In the progress phase, we get specific clarity.
1. The outcome is clear.
2. The phases are organised.
Now we break down each phase into performance and process goals.
The questions we ask are:
What are the performance goals needed to achieve each phase?
And:
What are the process goals needed to achieve each performance goal?
For example, letโs use:
Phase One: Upgrade the Client Onboarding Journey
A performance goal could be:
โBy (day/month/year), we will have upgraded the first-week onboarding process, so new clients can get started easily, and know how to profit from their lifeโs purpose, productively.โ
Then the process goals could be:
1. Mind map the new, upgraded first-week client journey.
2. Review the current first-week onboarding process.
3. Identify the adjustments needed step by step.
4. Clarify who is responsible for each step.
5. Make the adjustments step by step.
6. Quality test the new process three times.
7. Sign off as completed by all responsible.
Now youโre no longer just saying:
โWe need to increase profits because.โ
1. The outcome is known.
2. The phases are known.
3. The performance goals are known.
4. The process goals are known.
This is a straightforward way to set goals and lead with purpose.

Imagine how your life could change if you became someone who sets and achieves goals, grows your business, and lives with purpose.
โBut Jerome, Iโm too busy firefighting to sit down and think like a leader.โ
I get it. Change is challenging. But ask yourself:
