When was the last time you TRULY stopped to think about this?

The terms "engagement" and "engaged" are used all the time….

But the term is broad at best and a topic of continuous research among academics, while business leaders do their best to navigate it.

Sometimes, it means how employees feel about their work. Other times, it refers to their actions or even their general attitude.

So let’s break it down the GOOD GROWTH WAY, to first define it and then ponder it more deeply in your own team.

The best definition we could find is:

ā€œAn individual’s purpose and focused energy, evident to others in the display of personal initiative, adaptability, effort, and persistence towards organizational goalsā€ (Macey et al., 2009).

BEAUTIFUL – I hope by now you either are or you can picture this person at work!

You see THAT from a mile away.

If you can’t picture this person or people, you might need to do some work to first consider and then act!

Consider these questions:

Do employees feel connected to their work?
Are employees actively participating in tasks and team activities?
Do employees generally have a positive attitude towards their job?
Is there evidence of high productivity and initiative?
Do employees consistently show a strong work ethic?
How do job attributes like workload and growth opportunities affect engagement?
How does YOUR leadership style impact employee engagement?

If you can't answer these questions , the first step is to take your people for a one on one and find out!

Positive challenge is a sign of a diverse, confident and trusting team.

Too many businesses are full of leaders who always agree...
Or is it that they never outwardly disagree?

Having 2 people (or a team of people) who always think alike means you are missing out on so many opportunities to create positive challenge in your business and to come up with better ways of doing things like;
- Improving client outcomes
- Increasing revenue through new products or services
- Challenging old ideals or the 'it's the way we do things around here' mindset
- Ensuring your decision has been challenged from all angles
-Risk, customer, longevity, relevance, values

Ask yourself these questions...
Do you have a culture that invites positive challenge? Or are your people too afraid to speak up?

When was the last time you invited someone to offer outside opinion and challenge with the goal of improving your business?

When was the last time your leadership team had a healthy debate about a topic crucial to the business, your clients or your team?

Intention + Action + Consistency = Good Growth

Intention: The initial plan, goal, or idea. This is easy!

Action: The steps you take towards achieving your goals. This is harder!

Consistency: The repeated discipline of actions over time, even when it's difficult. This is the hardest!

Intentions set the direction, actions create progress, and consistency ensures sustained growth. That’s good growth. Sadly, the harder it gets, the rarer it becomes.
