It’s a question worth asking — because a bigger battery isn’t much help if you don’t have enough excess solar to charge it.

Before adding a battery, we look at how your existing solar system is performing and how much energy your home actually uses.

Sometimes your existing solar is more than enough. Other times, adding more panels or upgrading the solar system before or alongside the battery can give you a much better result.

We look at:

⚡ How much electricity your household uses
📊 How much power you’re exporting back to the grid
🔋 The size of battery you’re considering
🌙 Your evening and overnight energy usage
🏠 Whether your existing system can be expanded

🔋⚡ Will my battery keep my house running during a blackout?

It’s one of the most common questions we get asked about batteries — and the answer is it can, but it depends on how your system is set up.

Simply having a battery doesn’t automatically mean your entire home will stay powered when the grid goes down.

A properly designed backup system can be configured to keep selected essential circuits running, such as:

💡 Lights
❄️ Fridge & freezer
📶 Wi-Fi
🔌 Selected power points
🚪 Garage doors & other essentials

Whole-home backup may also be possible depending on the system, battery capacity and your household loads.

That’s why **system design matters**. We’ll talk to you about what you actually want to keep running during an outage and design your solar & battery system accordingly.

If you’re in South East Queensland and on an eligible Solar Sharer electricity plan, you could access up to 24kWh of free electricity every day between 11am and 2pm.

And here’s the interesting part — you don’t even need solar to be eligible.

The trick is making those three hours work for your household.
