University of the Sunshine Coast Theatre, Australia

University of the Sunshine Coast Theatre, Australia UniSC Theatre showcases and promotes the work of UniSC Theatre and Performance Students.

UniSC's Theatre and Performance programme encourages our students to experience the thrill of live performance and guide them towards success as a performer, director, educator, or stage manager. They will explore traditional and contemporary approaches to voice and text and study elements of 20th-century theatre to learn how to captivate and hold an audience. Our students study theatre history, a

cting, directing and performance leadership, culminating in a fully realised original devised production. Each year the programme has a Theatre Season where students have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers on multiple productions and make an impact on the Sunshine Coast with regular public performances. Taught by national and international award-winning industry experts, the skills our students learn can be applied to a broad range of careers and industry sectors, including education, creative industries, communication, events management and more. UniSC Theatre and Performance presents The Chair and The Cello, a research project performance event. Devised by Dr Hannah Banks, AProf Nicola Hyland and Dr Briony Luttrell with Dr Carl Walling and Lucy Orkild

The Chair and The Cello is a new creative work which was devised as part of a research project. The performance is set over the course of one night and explores ideas of loneliness, isolation and academia. The human need for connection is confronted by the inanimate object: sexy cellos, fascist chairs, and piles of doom. When we are overwhelmed with to-do lists and easy-clean DIY dystopian capitalism, when we are confined in a liminal and uncanny space, what is it that we need to survive?

This event will begin with an introduction from the project’s Chief Investigator Dr Hannah Banks, followed by a presentation from our international collaborator AProf Nicola Hyland about the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of performance from an Indigenous perspective. Then there will be a short break with some light refreshments, before the performance of The Chair and The Cello commences at 6.30pm, with an approximate run time of 50 minutes.

This event is free and will be held in the K1.G.09 Performance Studio on the Sippy Downs campus. It is next to Carpark P6 and the Art Gallery. Tickets can be registered at the link below.
