Hi everyone,

As we are in the festive season, businesses may want to show their gratitude to staff through gifts or parties. Here are some key Tax and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) considerations:

🎄Christmas Gifts Under $300:
Non-cash gifts (e.g., hampers, gift cards, wine under $300 per employee) are generally considered “minor benefits.” If given infrequently, they are exempt from FBT and are tax-deductible.

🎄Christmas Party Exemptions:
o On-Site Parties: Hosting a Christmas party at the business premises on a workday may be exempt from FBT and income tax-deductible.

🎄 Off-Site Parties:
If the party costs less than $300 per employee (including food, drink, and entertainment), it may qualify for a minor benefit exemption and avoid FBT, though it will not be tax-deductible.

🎄Gift Vouchers:
Gift vouchers (under $300) are a great alternative and can be exempt from FBT if it meets the infrequency and under the $300 conditions.
