Insurance is one of those things most pet business owners know they should have, but very few people stop and think about what happens if they actually need it.
We tend to think claims happen to other people, the careless groomer, the reckless dog walker, the business that cuts corners.
The reality is that many claims come from businesses doing everything right (even me)
A dog slips a lead, a pet gets injured, a client alleges negligence, an employee is hurt at work, equipment causes damage, a social media post sparks a dispute. Sometimes it isn’t even about being at fault, it’s about having the resources to defend yourself when something goes wrong.
I’ve spoken to business owners who assumed they were covered when they weren’t, and others who discovered too late that the cheapest policy wasn’t necessarily the right one.
One claim can mean legal fees, compensation, lost income, reputational damage and months of stress. For some businesses, it can genuinely be the difference between surviving and closing the doors.
That’s why I sat down with Pet Business International to have a very real conversation about insurance, risk, liability and what pet professionals need to know before they find themselves in that position.
Whether you’re a solo operator, a home based business or managing a growing team, this episode is worth your time.
