We’re open for business - but the challenges facing compliant Australian manufacturers are real. VCCI captured our story perfectly

For nearly five decades, AM-BOSS Access Ladders has been helping create safer, smarter access solutions for homes and workplaces across Victoria.

As a proudly Australian-made, family-owned manufacturer, they're open for business because they believe in quality craftsmanship, reliable products and supporting local jobs.

But like many manufacturers, rising operating costs and increasing compliance pressures are making it harder to grow, invest and compete.

Through , we're sharing the stories behind Victorian businesses, celebrating their contribution to our economy while highlighting the challenges standing in their way.

What's your "We're open for business... but..." story?

Our new AM‑BOSS Team has well and truly hit the ground running — powering through back‑orders and keeping installs moving with skill, speed and genuine pride in their work.

This powerhouse crew brings together a Carpenter, Cabinet‑maker, Welder and Plumber… a seriously talented mix that can tackle just about anything we throw at them.

When you think about it, we’re only a few trades short of building houses — and naturally, every one of them would come with an AM‑BOSS attic ladder. LOL.

Kudos to this fantastic team. Their craftsmanship, energy and commitment are already making a huge difference.

From the 1980s to today AM‑BOSS has been part of Melbourne’s Home Show story for generations. We recently shared Ashford Attics’ fantastic stand at this year’s event, showcasing our Australian‑made Access Ladders… and now we’ve uncovered a classic photo from decades ago, back when AM‑BOSS exhibited year after year.

The stands may look different, but the message hasn’t changed:
Quality matters. Longevity matters. Customer service matters.
And AM‑BOSS has delivered all three for almost 50 years!

Some things stand the test of time - Am-Boss Access Ladders is one of them.

Ashford Attics brought Am-Boss Access Ladders back into the spotlight at the recent Melbourne Home Show - and the response was incredible! For those who remember, AM‑BOSS exhibited at the Home Show for almost 20 years, so seeing our ladders showcased again felt like a proud return.… and then there were plenty of people who were discovering AM-BOSS attic ladders for the first time.

If you live in Victoria, especially from the North and West through to Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland or Geelong, it’s time to make your ceiling space work harder.

Contact Ashford Attics and discover what an AM‑BOSS ladder can do for your home.

Some families pass down jewellery… others pass down an AM‑BOSS attic ladder.

We had a lovely enquiry a couple of weeks ago from someone whose parents still use their AM‑BOSS ladder - with no CodeMark serial number we know it's a seasoned veteran and was probably installed at least 15 years ago - and it’s still going strong!

We often hear from customers after 20, 30, even 35+ years, still happily climbing their original AM‑BOSS and just needing a new part or wanting to add a handrail.

Quality doesn’t just last - sometimes it becomes part of the family.

Creating a compliant access pathway from ground to roof often means bringing multiple components together - ladders, platforms, egress points, guard panels and safe‑step surfaces. That’s exactly where AM‑BOSS excels.

Every system we build is purpose‑designed, Australian‑made, and installed with the kind of precision that only comes from decades of experience. We don’t just add components - we create a complete, reliable access solution that feels cohesive, safe and built to last.

This recent installation in Truganina, Victoria is a perfect example: a complex environment transformed into a seamless, fully compliant access route from ground to roof, crafted with the care and quality AM‑BOSS is known for.

Not exactly the place for “that’ll do” equipment is it?
So what’s the move, what's the solution? Climb up on a plastic ladder and hope for the best? Didn't think so...
