We recently visited the annual SWELL Sculpture Festival along the Currumbin foreshore, which now extends past Waves on Currumbin—one of our early beachfront projects.
Completed 26 years ago, the building’s distinctive curved form was designed in response to its prominent beachfront setting and sweeping coastal outlook.
More than a quarter of a century later, it’s rewarding to see the architectural style hasn’t aged, its sculptural form still feeling contemporary and entirely at home on the Currumbin coastline.

Our latest Brisbane project explores the dialogue between old and new.
Set on a double block, the project involves the relocation, partial demolition and sensitive renovation of an existing historic pre-war home, alongside the creation of a contemporary new residence.
The result is a considered relationship between the character of the original home and a distinctly contemporary addition.

Architectural trends evolve, but some design principles endure. The flowing balcony forms of Marquis on Main at Main Beach, one of our earlier Gold Coast projects, reflect an approach that continues to influence contemporary residential towers today.

What do all these projects have in common?
I acted as the Developer’s “concierge” Architect, overseeing and managing the design process on their behalf.
This involved guiding and coordinating the Principal Architects to ensure the Client’s vision and development objectives were successfully realised.
It’s a design management role shaped by more than 40 years of successful architectural practice and project delivery experience.

The first project I designed after moving to the Gold Coast was this resort-style residential development at Buchan Point, just north of Palm Cove in FNQ.
Drawing inspiration from both Balinese influences and Australian vernacular architecture, the design evolved into a style I termed Australinese — blending tropical resort living with a distinctly local response to climate and place.
Named Munbilla, derived from the Indigenous term meaning much water, the project was fittingly positioned on a prominent headland site overlooking the ocean and Double Island.
