🏟️ WHEN SPORT LOSES ITS HOME

For many Australians, community sport is part of everyday life β€” weekend games, training sessions, volunteers on the sidelines and families gathering at the local ground.

In Ukraine, war has profoundly changed those familiar routines.

As of August 2026, 925 sporting facilities had been damaged or destroyed β€” affecting not only places to play, but spaces where communities connect, children grow and people find a sense of normality.

Yet, even amid disruption and uncertainty, communities continue to find ways to play.

Sport cannot remove the realities of war. But it can provide routine, friendship, connection and moments of hope.

We are so pleased to see local independent for Banambra Dr Lachie McKeeman getting behind the Tallangatta & District Netball Association and Tallangatta & District Football League plans for a (long overdue) pavilion upgrade at Sandy Creek Reserve. This region has long been overlooked and underfunded and it’s great to see it getting the focus that it deserves.

Regional centres of comparable size receive double the funding.

β€œWe need it” isn’t enough to demonstrate community need.

Most organisations understand why their project matters. The challenge is demonstrating that need to someone outside the organisation.

Strong evidence might include:
πŸ“ˆ Membership and participation growth
πŸ“‹ Facility usage data
⏳ Waiting lists or programs that cannot expand
πŸ’¬ Community surveys and consultation
🏘️ Population and demographic changes
β™Ώ Safety, accessibility or compliance concerns
🀝 Letters of support from community partners

Instead of simply saying, β€œOur facilities are no longer suitable,” explain:
β€’ Who is affected?
β€’ What is preventing participation?
β€’ How often does the problem occur?
β€’ What will improve if the project proceeds?

Evidence turns a general claim into a credible case for investment.
The strongest funding applications clearly connect the community problem, the supporting evidence and the proposed solution.

What evidence could your organisation start collecting today?

🏐 FROM ONE COURT TO TWO β€” A NEW ERA AT SANDY CREEK!

A huge win for country netball! The Tallangatta & District Netball Association secured $553,595 through the Australian Government’s Play Our Way Program, helping transform one ageing court at Sandy Creek Recreation Reserve into two modern netball courts, complete with new player and spectator shelters.

The new facilities mean more room for training, matches, competitions and community programs β€” creating a safer and more welcoming home for players now and into the future. πŸ’™
