Occupational hazard of tax season? ⚠️ If you’ve called this week and wondered why I sound like I’ve been yelling at a footy grand final… don’t worry, it’s just tax season.
Some people get sore feet.
Some get screen headaches.
Maybe a paper cut.
Me? I lose my voice.

After lots of calls, meetings and parenting; my voice has clocked off before I have. I’m still here, still working, just whispering and sending text messages instead of calling.

My mate said I can claim it… 🙄 the words that make accountants roll their eyes every tax season.

Tax deductions aren’t determined by what someone else claims. They’re determined by your specific circumstances and the tax law.

Before relying on advice from friends, family, social media or the bloke at the weekend BBQ, make sure you understand how the rules apply to you.

📢 Minimum Award Rates Are Changing
From 1 July 2026, minimum award wages are set to increase following the Fair Work Commission’s annual wage review.

While the headlines often focus on the percentage increase, the real impact for employers is ensuring payroll systems, employment agreements, award classifications and budgeting are updated correctly.

If you employ staff, now is the time to review:
➡️ Award coverage and classifications
➡️ Payroll settings
➡️ Employment contracts
➡️ Budget forecasts and cash flow

Getting it wrong can lead to underpayments, penalties and costly corrections down the track.

Budget announcements ≠ legislation ➡️ Let’s break it down.
While the 2026/27 Federal Budget contained a range of proposed tax and business measures, only a small number have actually been legislated at this stage. Until legislation is passed through Parliament, many of the announced changes remain proposals only.

Parliament is scheduled to sit again in June and I’ll be watching closely to see which measures progress, change or fail to pass altogether.

Before making financial decisions based on budget announcements, it’s important to seek advice from an Advisor. I am always up for a chat (no surprises there 😂).
