NEW Podcast Episode - "How to Reduce Cancellations and Patient Disengagement by Reducing the Communication Gap" with Annette Tonkin
Just released a fantastic episode of the Practiceology 7 Questions in 7 Minutes podcast, featuring Annette Tonkin.

Annette draws on 30+ years as a clinician, educator, and communication specialist to highlight the real missing link in client care: effective communication.

If you’re in allied health and ever feel frustrated by client cancellations, lack of engagement, or non-adherence to treatment plans—this one’s for you.

Key takeaways:

Communication beats information: Overloading clients with knowledge and evidence doesn’t fix disengagement. Annette reminds us it’s not about giving more info—it’s about tapping into your client’s own motivation.

Get curious, not frustrated: When clients resist, dig deeper with curiosity rather than push harder with instructions. Ask questions, reflect, and uncover the real reason behind their hesitancy.

Behavior change is at the heart: Whether you’re a physio, chiro, podiatrist, or other allied health professional, remember—we’re all working in behavior change, not just psychology. Partner up with your clients on their journey, instead of dictating directions.

In almost every health business marketing lecture I have given over the past 20 years - I ask this question of the attendees?

Where do most of your new clients come from?

Should open the floodgates to lots of responses.

Yet the most common reply I get is...

"Word of mouth"

Whilst this may be true - the "word of mouth" reply opens up some issues:

- do they even track the referral source for their new clients?
- if it is a word of mouth referral - are they tracking (and maybe rewarding) the referrer for their kind recommendation?
- do they use any other marketing (paid or free) to generate new clients?

Interestingly enough, when I hear a practice owner say their new patient referrals mostly come from WOM - it is almost like I am watching a subtitled film - where the subtitle in this example reads:

"I don't have a marketing plan".

This is why I have decided to make November - "Patient Attraction Month" at Practiceology.

So over the next 4 weeks - I will be sharing some of the latest and best new patient attraction strategies.

The month will culminate in a live online masterclass:

"The Ultimate Patient Attraction System - Updated".

In this live online 3 hour presentation, I will be sharing the most successful and profitable marketing strategies that are working NOW.

In true Paul Wright style, there will be an irresistable offer for all who register.

Keep an eye on your email inbox or social media feeds, for the event information when I release the details.

See you there
