Just a heads up to anyone in construction, building, or development at the moment.

We’re starting to see a shift with bank-funded projects. On a number of jobs recently, even after the work has been completed, signed off, and everyone is happy — payments are being delayed because banks are now appointing quantity surveyors to reassess drawdowns before releasing funds.

This is creating a flow-on effect:
Client doesn’t get paid → Builder doesn’t get paid → Subcontractors don’t get paid.

I’ve personally had this happen multiple times over the past couple of months.

With rising fuel costs, increased operating expenses, and interest rates where they are, these delays are putting real pressure on contractors and small businesses trying to keep things moving.

Not pointing fingers — just making people aware of what’s starting to happen out there so you can plan ahead, protect your cash flow, and have the right conversations upfront before starting work.
