What if the problem with your freelance life isn’t that you’re doing it wrong… but that you never stop long enough to ask what’s actually working?

In the newest episode of The Talk Freelance To Me® Podcast, I sit down with Melanie Padgett Powers, host of The Deliberate Freelancer, for an honest conversation about building a freelance business that fits you, not someone else’s blueprint.

We talk about what happens when freelancers pause on purpose, reflect instead of react, and start making decisions based on how they actually want to work.
In this episode, we cover:

- Why solo business retreats can be a game-changer for freelancers
- How to step out of overwhelm and evaluate your clients with clarity
- Why time tracking isn’t about control, but freedom
- Designing your freelance schedule around your energy
- And more!

I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing two women I’ve admired for years: Rachel Smith Freelance Journalist and Lynne Testoni Content , Australian journalists and the powerhouse hosts of The Content Byte Podcast.

If you’re a freelancer, a freelance writer, or a creative building a sustainable business, you’re going to love this conversation.

Rachel and Lynne share the real story behind seven years of podcasting, building community, running their summit, and navigating collaboration with honesty and humor. We also dig into what it looks like to create opportunities for other freelance writers and what the future of creative freelancing really holds.

These two have shaped the freelance world in Australia and beyond, and getting the chance to learn from them firsthand was a full-circle moment for me.

Feeling like everyone else already had the idea you’re sitting on?

Alex “Nemo” Hanse reminds us that the spark you feel in those moments is yours for a reason. That lightning bolt doesn’t strike anyone else in the room.

Your insight matters, your voice carries weight, and staying quiet only keeps doors closed that are meant for you. Speaking up can shift a conversation, change an opportunity, or open a path you didn’t think you were ready for.

What happens when you stop waiting for permission and finally trust your talent?

The latest episode of The Talk Freelance To Me® Podcast features a conversation I have wanted to bring you for a long time. I had the chance to speak with Alex Nemo Hanse , the creator, designer, and founder behind Foolies Clothing . His work and his words have inspired me for years, especially as someone navigating the freelance and creative world.

We talk about how personal loss shaped his purpose, why he centers Black women in everything he creates, and what it takes to keep going when fear, layoffs, or imposter feelings creep in.

You will also hear the story behind his shirt that says “Imposters Never Have This Syndrome,” which connected with me immediately.

Nemo talks with honesty, clarity, and conviction. If you have been feeling stuck or unsure of your next move, this is your reminder that you can start where you are.

Even if it feels rough. Even if it feels imperfect.

Experience the episode and share it with someone who needs encouragement today.
