Disclosure and the importance of history.
This last couple of weeks has been interesting as we debate history. As Company Directors, we need to understand history to help us understand the present and as input to navigating the future. We have seen politicians show their lack of understanding of history, and now they are making Arts degrees more expensive as a way to disincentivise people to learning history.
I follow an Aboriginal Person, an Academic on Twitter, and they mentioned a show launched 19June 2020 on Netflix, “Disclosure”.
For me, this is a must for all company directors to watch, to understand how media has misrepresented a group in our community and contributed to a false fear of transgender people.
I now wonder how much of the current “Bathroom Bill” debate comes from the movies?
Exclusion, misrepresentation, but ultimately breakthrough and hope.
As company directors, if we are genuinely focused on equality in our workplaces, that has to include transgender people. If you have no insight into their lived history and experiences, then it is time you do, and “Disclosure” is a starting point for your journey.
