Our partner Georgina Legoe had the pleasure of attending the ESG for SMEs Symposium hosted by the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman to design a pathway for small/family businesses to incorporate Environmental, Social and Governance as a part of operating a successful and enduring business. The Symposium was invitation only and brought together leading thinkers, regulators, practitioners, academics and smaller enterprises who are 'walking the talk'.
Yes there is a driver - with the release of the Australian Government's climate-related financial disclosure exposure draft legislation. The draft outlines that the reporting requirements will be phased in over four years, starting with the largest companies and major greenhouse emitters in 2024. To illustrate the relevance to small/family business - Coles or Woolworths will need to report on climate metrics and emissions and for this to be accurate they will require their suppliers to provide the data.
The good news is that there are 'delicious opportunities' that can be unlocked with ESG for SMEs.
