Our flagship employment-focused mentoring program provides teenagers across the Northern Beaches of Sydney that are in school or have recently finished with meaningful casual employment, on-the-job training and extensive wrap around support.

We love a flat pack build here at The Beaches Launch Pad. This one is in Dee Why.

Such a good opportunity to work together with a teen mentee whilst having quality time to talk about employment pathways.

We’re hoping to tee up a job in Brookvale for this lad next week. Fingers crossed I haven’t jinxed it by mentioning it here.

A proud day for The Beaches Launch Pad with one of our teen mentees starting work experience at the ‘Night At The Barracks’.

He’s employed as a runner for the stage manager, helping and supporting the various bands, starting with ‘Boy & Bear’.

His goal is to have a career in sound production and hence this is an amazing first step.

The same mentee spent the morning working with me in a garden in Clontarf, cutting hedges, mowing lawns and giving a garden a general tidy.

So good!

Today’s challenge with one of our teen mentees was to prepare a tired veggie and fruit patch for the growing season ahead.

Weeding and aerating the existing soil, adding new soil, new mulch, new supports and a trim for the passion fruit, a big trim for the rosemary, tomatoes and cucumbers planted with a simple trellis. We also added a lawn improver to the grass round the veggie patch and stripped ivy off an adjacent wall.

A positive morning together, getting the job done for the client ✅

A busy end to the week for The Beaches Launch Pad as a new teen mentee had a trial session with us. Giving him the time and space to see what our program is like. He put a new latch on an outdoor cupboard, visited Bunnings to purchase sleepers for a garden/ vegetable patch project and then started the process of removing a small wall and inserting the sleepers in place. Another mentee and I were on hedge trimming, hence the photo.

An excellent final morning for one of our awesome teen mentees as he has secured a full time job as a gardener. Super happy for him and he is rightly very proud of himself. He has worked for us for 7 weeks (8 x 3 hour shifts) and is ready to fly. Here’s the last major project we have completed together - 2 coats of paint on top of the waterproof coating. A proud day for The Beaches Launch Pad 🚀🚀

Very enjoyable morning in Allambie, helping the owner tidy her garden. First day of spring and this garden is already looking amazing. Using gardening tools, building confidence, being in the work place and meeting client expectations. Finished off by a trip to Bunnings to buy new fencing - happy days for the owner, the mentee and myself

A huge thanks to the team behind a ‘Night At The Barracks’ for offering one of our mentees work experience at their upcoming open air concert in Manly.

Working back stage, supporting iconic Australian bands bump in and out. Just what this teenager was looking for ahead of starting a TAFE course in Sound Production.

Super happy for this teen. He so deserves this opportunity.

A wet morning well used for The Beaches Launch Pad and one of our new mentees. We’re nearing the end of refurbishing this stunning pine box. Sanding done, 2 coats of stain done, protective coat to go. Just as importantly we’ve been chatting to each of our amazing mentees about the Seasonal Casual opportunities now being advertised at Bunnings. Deadline is the end of August for applications so we’re busy supporting and guiding where appropriate through the process.

A very solid morning on the tools for our teen mentee today. Repairing a rotten merbau deck in two places with new boards, joists and hangers. Challenging activity with a very satisfying outcome.

On the way back, our mentee listed all the activities we have done together over the last 9 weeks, highlighting how much he has grown in confidence in his own abilities over that time period. A proud moment for The Beaches Launch Pad.
