Skilled Occupations List has been replaced by the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and applicants applying for Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) are now required to nominate an occupation from this new list.

457 visas will be scrapped in March 2018

They will be replaced with two new visas to be known as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visas

There will be two streams known as the short term stream (two year visa) and the medium term stream (four year visa)

Almost all applications will need to be Labour Market Tested

The list of occupations that are eligible to be nominated will be drastically reduced to come into effect on 19 April 2017 (tomorrow) and apply to all 457 applications lodged from that date as well as to the new visas coming into effect in March 2018

Visa applicants will need at least two years relevant work experience

Only holders of the medium term visa will be eligible to apply for permanent residence after three years (currently two years)

Higher English requirements

Applicants will need to provide police checks (currently not required for most 457 applications)

Concessions for regional employers

For those Applicants that have applications lodged but not yet approved, if the Occupation has been removed the application will need to be withdrawn.
