And this one is pretty special to me.

Introducing the very first UNMUTED SUMMIT.

Be a little more unmuted.

I’ve always been fascinated by people and the stories they carry.

The experiences that shape us. The challenges we overcome. The things we learn along the way.

And how often we keep those stories to ourselves, never realising the impact they could have on someone else.

It’s what inspired me to create Unmuted Stories.

And now, we’re bringing that vision to life in a room full of people.

But this isn’t going to be another business conference or speakers selling on stage.

We’re bringing together 80 business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals for a day that blends:

✨ Powerful stories from people who have something worth sharing.

✨ Fresh perspectives on business, marketing, visibility and the changing world of AI.

✨ Honest conversations about the experiences that shape us, both personally and professionally.

✨ Genuine connection. Not just exchanging business cards, but actually getting to know the people in the room.

Because here’s what I believe.

People connect with people. Not perfectly polished brands, impressive job titles or carefully curated versions of ourselves.

And sometimes, the story you’re afraid to share is the very thing someone else needs to hear.

I want people to leave this event feeling inspired, challenged and a little braver.

Braver to speak up.

Braver to put themselves out there.

Braver to share their experiences, ideas and expertise.

And to recognise that their voice matters.

I think we spend a lot of our lives trying to avoid the hard stuff.

Make things easier. More comfortable. Less painful.

But Brock said something in our conversation that I really liked…

“Going through hard things isn’t something to avoid.”

Because whether you choose the hard thing or life chooses it for you, you’re going to face things that test you.

And Brock knows both sides of that.
He’s had hard things forced on him that he never would have chosen.

But now he’s at a point in his life where he’ll deliberately choose hard things too.
Not because he enjoys struggling.

Because he knows what doing hard things has built in him.

Resilience. Perspective. Confidence. The ability to back himself when things don’t go to plan.

As he put it…
“It builds every important muscle.”

I really liked this part of our conversation because the goal probably isn’t to build a life where nothing hard ever happens.

That’s impossible anyway.

Maybe it’s knowing that when it does, you can handle hard things.

how 10 years can change a life.

If 26-year-old me sat down for coffee with 36-year-old me, I’m not sure either of us would believe the other.

In 2016, I was living in Sydney, working for the public prosecutors and studying law at university to become a Crown Prosecutor.

That was the dream.

That year, I also started dating your daddy.

We’d met years earlier through the police, and when we found each other again, we connected over our police stories and this strange little world we both understood.

Then came ten years of life.

We moved in together. I left law. We travelled. Rode motorbikes. Bought a home. Got married. Went through IVF. Navigated COVID and redundancies.

And then we had you.

I started a company. Our marriage ended. Friendships changed and some disappeared. Eventually, you and I moved closer to my family.

Just us.

I found breathwork, worked on my wellbeing and learned how to find my feet again. I fought for our safety. We found our own home and slowly started building a life that felt like ours.

And somewhere amongst all of that, I started finding parts of myself I hadn’t made room for in years.

Painting again. Music again. Beautiful friendships. Travelling. Writing. Creating.

Learning what I actually enjoy when I’m the one choosing it.

There are things 26-year-old me wanted so badly that 36-year-old me has had to let go of, and there are parts of her I’m finding my way back to now.

The creative girl. The one who loved music and art. The curious one with big ideas about what her life might become.

Except now I get to introduce her to you.

Ten years ago, I thought I knew what my life would look like.

Today, I’m sitting here with a three-year-old beside me, a home that is ours, people I love, work that means something to me, paint on our hands, music playing again and a whole lot of life still ahead of us.

I wonder what 46-year-old me will tell us over coffee.

The way people search for businesses is changing.

I’ve already had friends skip Google and go straight to ChatGPT to ask things like:

“Find me the best family lawyer near me who does X, Y and Z.”

And that changes how I’m thinking about the content we create for our businesses.

Because if someone searches for you, what evidence exists online to help them understand who you are, what you know and whether they should trust you?

Your website is one piece.

Then there’s your YouTube channel. Your podcast. LinkedIn. Articles you’ve contributed to. Interviews you’ve appeared in. Stories about your work. Reviews. Mentions elsewhere online.

It all contributes to the body of evidence that exists around you and your business.

And this is one of the reasons I’m so big on capturing long-form conversations right now.

One conversation can become a podcast episode, a YouTube video, short-form clips, LinkedIn posts, an email, an article and ideas you can pitch to publications.

You’re creating content for today while building a much bigger footprint around what you want to be known for.

That’s the part I think small businesses need to start paying attention to.

We’ve spent years thinking about content as something we post.

I’m much more interested in building a body of work that helps people find you, understand you and trust you.

And I think that’s going to matter more and more as AI changes the way people search.

I used to be so judgemental about parents.

Before I had Archie, I was very much…
“I’m never going to be THAT parent.”

I came from policing. I was serious. Quite black and white. And empathy probably wasn’t my strongest quality.

Then I became a Mum.
And suddenly I cried at everything 😂

Things that wouldn’t have made sense to me 10 years ago made complete sense.

My priorities changed.
My perspective changed.

I’ve changed my business and the way I live my life around being a Mum.

And Brock and I got talking about this idea that sometimes you can’t learn a lesson before you’re ready to understand it.

Life has a funny way of putting you in situations that ask something different of you.

To be courageous.
To be empathetic.
To get back up.
To keep going.

And sometimes apparently we need to be knocked over ten times before we finally go...

Ohhh. THAT’S what I’m supposed to learn here.

I can look back at versions of myself from 10 years ago and barely recognise the way I thought about certain things.

But maybe that’s the point.
We’re not supposed to stay the same.

I lost my dad when I was 20.

There’s a moment Brock shares in this conversation that says so much about what that actually meant.

After his dad died, one of the first things Brock had to do was pay one of his credit card statements.
Except he didn’t know how.

And all he wanted to do was pick up the phone and ask:
“Dad, I’ve got this bill. How do I pay it?”

But he couldn’t.

So he had to figure it out.

As Brock says:
“There is no alternative. You have to keep going.”

And I think that helps you understand the person behind the business Brock has built today.

He’s always been someone willing to have a go, even when he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.

Years later, he saw his sister’s business outsourcing their plant hire and thought…

I could do a better job.

There was only one small problem.

He’d never looked after a plant before in his life!

Brock describes it as being a little delusional.

That willingness to look at something he’s never done before and think, I reckon I can figure that out.

Today, Brock and his team have plants in more than 65 properties.

And in this episode, we get into the story behind all of it.

Losing his dad. Growing up quickly. The different businesses and opportunities he’s chased. And why a little bit of delusion might actually be a pretty useful thing to have.

I think we forget that your culture isn’t only affecting your employees. Your customers can see it too.

I’m currently looking at schools for Archie, and one of the things I notice straight away is how long the teachers and staff have been there.

Because if there’s constant turnover, I start asking questions.

Why are people leaving?

What’s happening behind the scenes?

And if I’m noticing that as a parent, your customers are noticing it in businesses too.

When the person they dealt with last time has left.

Then the next person leaves.

Then someone new has to learn their account all over again.

It doesn’t only cost you money to replace good people.

It can start costing you trust with your customers too.

I sat down with Pip from Premier Team Building to talk about culture, leadership, why good people leave and what businesses can do differently.

There’s a reason Pip cares so deeply about the way people feel at work.

It comes from lived experience.

Earlier in his career, Pip experienced a workplace culture that had an enormous impact on him personally.

Moving to Australia marked a new chapter.

He was happier, healthier and made a decision that became foundational to the work he does today:

Create workplaces where people can thrive.

For himself. For the people around him. And now, for the leaders and teams he works with.

That’s what I loved about this part of our conversation.

Because culture reaches far beyond what happens between 9 and 5.

It shapes how people feel, how they show up, how they lead and what they take home with them at the end of the day.

Losing one employee could cost your business at least $80,000.

That got my attention 😅

I sat down with Pip, a leadership and culture coach, and we got into what workplace culture actually costs a business when it’s not working.

Because we throw around words like “good culture” and “bad culture” all the time.

But Pip has a different take:

There’s no such thing as good or bad culture. There’s only culture that’s fit for purpose.

And when it’s not?

People leave.

You lose knowledge, experience and momentum. You spend money recruiting and training someone new. And the impact can be a hell of a lot bigger than one person handing in their resignation.

People bond to stories.

It’s one of the biggest reasons I started The 100 Stories Project.

I’m on a mission to help 100 people share theirs because people do business with people they like, relate to and ultimately believe in.

I sat down with Cody from The Pronto Junk Team recently and we talked about a hell of a lot more than business.

We talked about losing his dad. Addiction. Recovery. Fatherhood. Becoming someone he’s proud of.

And this happens every time I sit down with one of our incredible business owners.

We connect.

Definitely not to manufacture perfect pieces of “content”.

Simply because we’re having a real conversation.

We find the bits we have in common.
The experiences we recognise in each other.
The things that make you go, wow, me too.

And the person watching gets to do the same.

They don’t just learn what you do.

They get to know you.

That’s why I think our stories have such a huge place in business.

Your expertise gives people a reason to respect what you know.

Your stories give them a reason to connect with the person behind it.

And I want to capture more of them.
