Happy National Honey Bee Day!š Some estimates say that honey bees (Apis mellifera) are responsible for 80% of all pollination today- thatās most of our pollinator-dependent diet! If you love almonds, apples, blueberries, cucumber, melons, and peaches, you have honey bees to thank.
Honeybees were imported into North America in the 17th century for their honey and beeswax.
At Pollinator Partnership, we support our honey bees through our many habitat programs that incorporate essential nectar and foraging resources for all bees. For the past 16 years, our NAPPC Honey Bee Health Grants have been distributed annually, totaling more than $750,000 in research support for 86 research programs in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Here are 5 things you can do to show your support for honey bees:
šÆ Support beekeepers by only purchasing honey made in the U.S.
