As the parent of a young teen, this is already a topic of conversation in our house - when should I get a job?, and as someone who had a high school job herself I simply relished in the idea that I now had my own spare change to spend on magazines.
Whilst I still have a few years to go before helping to answer this question, this is a conversation I find myself drawn too as there are still some differing views from parents - lots of pros and cons perhaps, but even from teenagers themselves. There is a fear of the unknown combined with the excitement of financial freedom (if only in their own minds), which will propel some and stall others.
In short, my view is that there is more to gain than to lose at whatever age you enter the workforce, you just need to be brave and take that first step - apply!
