A Furry Prayer for Bella “Buttercup” Edwards

In Loving Memory — Forever Our Angel With Bows

On July 4th, fourteen years ago, a tiny spark of love padded her way into your home and instantly rewrote the rhythm of your family’s heart. Bella “Buttercup” Edwards wasn’t just a pet—she was a quiet, spunky little soul who greeted every person with a smile, a soft kiss, and a presence that felt like sunshine settling gently on your shoulder.

Yesterday, Bella’s watch came to a peaceful sunset. Surrounded by her family, she knew. She felt the love. And in her own gentle way, she said her goodbyes—soft, knowing, grateful.

Ms. Buttercups, a.k.a., Bellzie, you gave your family everything. And now, free from pain, you’re back with Jett—tugging ropes, splashing in heavenly lakes, and riding shotgun with Poppa Edwards. Your Nannas, Poppa A, Kae, Emma, Sarah and I will never ever forget your love 💕

Her sweetness spread far beyond your home. Nova, her groomer and friend, didn’t just give her bows—she captured Bella’s spirit, her softness, her spark. Those little snapshots, those tiny bows, those moments frozen in time.

Our sincere appreciation to 405 Vet for their patient and compassionate over the years of service and care for Bellzie.

Your paws may no longer tap across the floor, but your love is stitched into the fabric of your family forever.

A Furry Prayer 🙏🏽 🐾

Juneteenth | Running for Freedom: The Legacy of James Cleveland “Jesse” Owens ~

On this Juneteenth, I’m reflecting on a story that embodies the very spirit of liberation, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of dignity: the journey of James Cleveland Owens, known to the world as Jesse Owens — the man who ran not just for medals, but for freedom.

In 1936, on the world’s largest stage in Berlin, Owens delivered a performance that shattered both records and racist ideology. Four gold medals. Four moments that forced the world to witness Black excellence in a place designed to deny it. His stride became a statement. His victories became a rebuke. His presence became a symbol of what happens when talent refuses to bow to tyranny.

Owens ran for more than himself.
He ran for those who couldn’t.
He ran for those still fighting.
He ran for the future we’re still building.

Today, as we honor Juneteenth — the celebration of delayed freedom, reclaimed identity, and the ongoing march toward equality — we also honor the stories that illuminate what freedom looks like in motion.

May we continue to run our leg of the race with the same conviction.

🏈 A Legacy Beyond the Field

In 1995, Coach Bob Simmons stepped onto the Oklahoma State University campus and changed the trajectory of Cowboy Football forever. His arrival wasn’t just a coaching hire — it was a historic moment that carried the spirit of renewal not felt since the glory days of 1988. Simmons brought more than playbooks and game plans; he brought purpose.

Coach Simmons believed that football was a vehicle, not the destination. He reminded every young man who wore orange and black that the true victory was found in the classroom, in character, and in community. Under his leadership, OSU became a home for a multi‑cultural brotherhood — a team of hardheads who learned discipline, respect, and resilience.

Those lessons have echoed through decades, shaping men who now serve as leaders, fathers, mentors, and contributors to society. Each of us who played for him carries a piece of that legacy — the belief that success is measured not by trophies, but by the lives we touch.

Today, we honor Coach Bob Simmons and his beautiful family, keeping them lifted in prayer. His influence lives on through every player he molded and every life he inspired. And as we mourn the passing of our teammate Nathan Simmons, we stand united — Cowboys forever, bound by faith and brotherhood.

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the life and legacy of Coach Bob Simmons — for his wisdom, his compassion, and his unwavering belief in education and integrity. Bless his family with comfort and peace. We also lift up Nathan Simmons, our brother, whose spirit now rests in Your eternal care. May Your grace surround all who mourn, and may Your love remind us that the bonds we formed under Coach Simmons’ guidance will never fade.
In Jesus’ name,

Amen.🙏🏽

🌬️ The Air We Share: A Reset for Science + Community

Proud to help kick off The Air We Share — a national movement led by my colleague, Tasha Wright, with the Museum of Science, ASTC, Western Mass partners, Sean “The Science Kid”, Dr. Bill Nye, and more.

Dr. Nye reminded us that his love for science started with something as simple as a bumble bee. That spark is exactly what we’re trying to reignite.

Because right now, our environment — and our trust in science — needs a reset.

The Air We Share turns complex environmental data into clear, local, actionable insights for families and communities. Fourteen science centers across the country are helping people understand the air they breathe and the steps they can take to protect their health.

Proud to be part of this work — and proud to be a Sanofian.

Honoring the Heroes of April 19th, 1995

On this day in 1995, our state — and our nation — was forever changed. The Oklahoma City Bombing remains one of the darkest moments in American history, but it also revealed something unbreakable: the courage, unity, and humanity of our first responders.

In this photo, my late father — Major Edwards of the Oklahoma City Police Department, in the white shirt — stands among the firefighters, EMTs, officers, and everyday Oklahomans who ran toward devastation when the rest of the world stood still. He was a documented leader that day, just as he had been decades earlier in Củ Chi, Vietnam, where he served with the same quiet resolve and sense of duty.

What’s remarkable is that Dad rarely spoke about his own valor. He didn’t recount the moments where he risked his life, or the lives he helped save, or the weight he carried long after the smoke cleared. Instead, he talked about them —
the firefighters who dug through rubble with their bare hands,
the EMTs who refused to stop,
the officers who worked until their bodies gave out,
the volunteers who formed human chains of hope.

He believed the story of April 19th wasn’t about one man — it was about a community that refused to break.

Today, I honor my father’s legacy, but I also honor every first responder who answered the call that morning. Their bravery shaped the soul of Oklahoma. Their sacrifice taught us what it means to serve. Their unity showed the world what resilience looks like.

We remember the 168 lives lost.
We honor the survivors.
And we lift up the heroes — known and unknown — who carried us through the unthinkable.

Oklahoma remembers. Oklahoma still stands. And Oklahoma never forgets.
