Screen time for children is most likely priming them for mood and / or cognitive disorders and addiction.

We see a lot of children here who are more drawn to screens. But screens aren't the answer. They can't provide the same 'clean, healthy dopamine of achievement' as actual activity and real risk and problem solving in the real world with your real body.

We may be able to find clues for their screen predilection in your childs neuro exam.

Often parents have a nagging sense they should limit screen time, but often question whether there’s enough evidence to justify yanking coveted devices.

Children need movement, physicality, risk, challenge and unstructured, joyful play to develop normally.

This kindergarten in Japan takes this seriously. Check out the joy and satisfaction in these children. They stumble and get up, they assess their environment and the risk and reward, and their brains will be better for it.

“This is not the kind of information you will find in the standard health care model. Optimal brain care and nutrition is a journey most patients must make on their own or with a qualified practitioner. However, Cavin is a testament to the brain’s amazing willingness and even desire to improve and recover when it is cared for properly.”

– Dr. Datis Kharrazian

He has brought together some incredible scientists and clinicians in his journey - and he is the proof of the pudding! Watch his videos to see where he came from - a severe brain injury - and the power of good nutrition, and functional neurology to restore the brain - you may not believe it but you do have the opportunity to glean those lessons and apply them for yourself!

Brain nutrition fundamentals learned inside the brain injury journey do apply to other damaged brains, and also to optimising regular brains.

Great article from one of our colleagues in Minnesota.

In Australia, AHPRA law prevents anyone who has studied in a functional neurology model from claiming any expertise. Even if they have around 5000 + hours of study / practice and experience in this model like I do.

Testimonials, case studies and talking about how we use this model to work with people with more complex problems is not allowed under registration conditions.

I know that you all ask for this when you are considering if you will come to see me. I also know that more than a few people go overseas to get therapy that is probably available locally. Having travelled overseas with patients and as a patient - I know how stressful and expensive this can be.

So I pass on articles from other providers who have different regulations, where they can talk more reasonably about the approaches that can be common in a practice that is informed by functional neurology.

I hope you enjoy it!

The number one indicator for success in my programmes with families?

Willingness to change.

When someone is willing to change, it is a wonderful, beautiful thing and so easy to help families get from where they are to where they want to be.

That's why I spend time on the phone before you come in - to make sure there is a good chance I can help you. To do the work or to get ready to do the work. I really don't want any one here unless I think I can help them help themselves.

Are your people willing to change? How do you know? Here's help in this tricky subject.

The most popular video from Vestibular Workshops - is about gravity and how we perceive it, and how it affects us.

Have a watch, feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested in understanding more.

How important is calibration?

Check out this glorious bridge as it destroys itself because it wasn't calibrated correctly.

Calibration is just as important in the brain, which is essentially a piece of goopy brain tissue until it starts to fire.

Your brain works best when it is:

1. Firing on all cylinders
2. Calibrated.

You can see how well your brain is calibrated by testing it. Balance, eye movements, responses to light, sound and instructions. Easy to test. Interpretation requires a solid knowledge of the brain structure and also calibration dynamics. That's harder.
