Last weekend, I went with friends to farewell Bodhi, a vegan restaurant in the heart of Sydney under St Mary’s Cathedral. 🍽

We’d been going there for years, especially in the early days when there weren’t so many quality vegan options and my friends’ choices were limited. 😅

But Bodhi, at the peak of popularity and after 34 years of operation, was closing its doors and we three foodies were devastated. 😭

Why would they close at the peak? Surely they should wait until they fell out of favour? 😕

Here’s what they said on their website:

“We have made the decision to close while the business is still strong so that we could end on a high.”

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The most courageous thing to do is to call it quits on something going well. 😳

Most people wait until the shoot has hit the fan and everything is crumbling around them. 😩

They crawl, bruised and broken, from the heartbreak of their failure and loss, drained and depleted, angry and hurt, clawing to get back to the warm glow of hope. 😞

It could be a relationship that was over years ago. 💔

Or a tv show that should have stopped at Season 6 (I’m looking at you Scrubs…). 📺

Or a job that you’ve outgrown and a career future that no longer excites you, but you still trudge into the physical or digital office every day. 🙇🏽‍♀️

If you left on the high, with your held high, that is a true active choice and where personal power comes from. 🙌🏽

Don’t wait until you hate your job. 🙅🏽‍♀️
Don’t wait until you’re held back. 🙅🏽‍♀️
Don’t wait until you’re resentful that your underpaid and overlooked. 🙅🏽‍♀️
Don’t wait until you’re so miserable you can’t stand another second. 🙅🏽‍♀️

There are opportunities being put in your path every day if you would just see them and take them. 💁🏽‍♀️

This is your career. 🙋🏽‍♀️
This is your leadership. 🙋🏽‍♀️
This is your life. 🙋🏽‍♀️

You have the power and you have the choice to go from peak to peak and leave the valleys to another life. 🌄

Grow before you slow and you’ll never stop shining or smiling. 😊

😳 I cannot tell you how many conversations I've had with clients and students recently about pay rises, promotions, and career changes...

LOTS.

And the same thing keeps coming up - incredible female professionals feel they are underpaid (not earning enough for the great work they do) and overlooked (for promotions and opportunities that would be perfect for them).

Or they're simply dreaming of career changes that would give them passion and purpose in their work. But just don't know where to start. 😩

Maybe it's being fuelled by The Great Resignation. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Maybe it's just always been there (I've been coaching women in this space for YEARS). 🤷🏽‍♀️

I was reminded of the phrase today "Outside In".

And I'm all about bringing related worlds, fresh ideas and new perspectives to our internal teams and stakeholders, especially when leading change.

But it has to land somewhere, right?

Is it landing on a cold bed of disinterest, disengagement, and cynicism?

If so, it'll fizzle pretty quickly.

True change grows from the inside out.

It is a fire that is sparked and fanned to burn in full force.

It is a light that grows from flicker to glow to beautiful brightness.

It is a warmth that builds and ripples into authentic radiating passion.

Too often when leading change we focus on the logical, rational side of what we're doing.

Then we wonder why no one seems to want to join the party and come on board.

It's not the change.

It's how you're communicating it.

Switching on hearts as well as minds is how you get your people engaged around a change from the inside out.

Believing it.

Owning it.

And asking for more.

It energises.
