Noah is a 20-year-old landscape apprentice who has been with Muru Mittigar for 19 months. During his apprenticeship he has developed strong practical skills, built positive working relationships with his team, and grown in confidence on site.

Samuel is a 16-year-old recent school leaver who joined Muru Mittigar six months ago as a landscape apprentice. He has settled into the workplace well, enjoys the hands-on nature of the role, and values the support he receives from his colleagues and supervisors.

Muru Mittigar’s Group Training Organisation creates supported employment pathways through apprenticeships and traineeships.
As the employer: Muru Mittigar recruits, employs and supports apprentices and trainees; then places them with host employers where they gain practical, on-the-job experience. We work closely with host employers and Registered Training Organisations to coordinate formal training, monitor progress and provide support throughout the training journey.

Muru is committed to ongoing reconciliation. This looks like:
- Caring for Country: bush regeneration and land care, implementing industry-safe practices while respecting our natural environment
- Cultural Celebration: hosting and assisting with workshops, talks, Cultural burns and events that share knowledge and education on Cultural traditions
- Caring for Community: financial counselling, food assistance, no-interest loans, assistance with energy bill payments and our GTO which connects young people to the working world, offering support, mentorship and the foundations of a career

Yesterday, we took some time to acknowledge the histories, Cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Reconciliation is not a single event on the calendar, it is a daily practice. It lives in the conversations we have, the respect we show and the choices we make. It is about listening, learning and being willing to do better. Reconciliation Day is a chance to reflect, take accountability, truly listen and commit to making positive change. But reconciliation doesn’t end, and that’s exactly why it matters.

Up to 30 community members visit Muru Mittigar every Thursday at 2pm, with food supplied through OzHarvest and shared based on what’s available. Throughout the week, we continue to support those in need - from homelessness to temporary housing, and families doing it tough - ensuring our community is cared for with dignity, respect and connection.
Reconciliation in action is about strengthening community, sharing resources and walking together.
