Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week 2026 โ€” a time for all Australians to reflect, learn, and take meaningful action toward reconciliation.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œAll In,โ€ is a powerful reminder that reconciliation requires active participation from each of us. Itโ€™s about building stronger relationships, creating opportunities, and supporting a more equitable future for First Nations peoples and businesses.

At NSW Procurement Specialists, we recognise the important role procurement plays in driving economic participation and creating lasting impact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and communities. We remain committed to fostering inclusive supply chains, supporting Indigenous procurement outcomes and contributing to meaningful change through action.

This week, we encourage everyone to consider how they can be for reconciliation, not just during NRW, but every day.

National Sorry Day is a time to reflect, listen and acknowledge the ongoing impact of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families and communities.

At NSW Procurement Specialists, we recognise that reconciliation is strengthened through meaningful action, respectful partnerships and creating opportunities that support long-term social and economic outcomes for First Nations communities.

Today, we stand in respect with survivors and honour the resilience, culture and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This yearโ€™s Federal Budget delivers a strong focus on cash flow relief, investment incentives, and reducing pressure on small businesses navigating rising costs and economic uncertainty.

๐‘ฒ๐’†๐’š ๐’Ž๐’†๐’‚๐’”๐’–๐’“๐’†๐’” ๐’Š๐’๐’„๐’๐’–๐’…๐’†:
โœ… A permanent $20,000 instant asset write-off for eligible small businesses
โœ… Extended tax loss carry-back measures to support resilience and recovery
โœ… New support for start-ups and innovation-driven businesses
โœ… Productivity reforms aimed at cutting red tape and simplifying compliance
โœ… Additional cost-of-living relief designed to stimulate consumer spending

For many SMEs, this Budget is about creating breathing room โ€” helping businesses invest in equipment, technology, people, and growth with greater confidence.

While there are still questions around broader tax reforms and long-term economic impacts, the message is clear: small business remains central to Australiaโ€™s economic future.

Now is the time for business owners to review:
๐Ÿ”น Investment plans
๐Ÿ”น Cash flow strategies
๐Ÿ”น Tax planning opportunities
๐Ÿ”น Growth and hiring goals for FY26/27

Whatโ€™s your take on this yearโ€™s Budget? Will these measures make a difference for your business?

Today, we honour and remember all those who have served our country โ€” past and present.

We pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice and enduring spirit of the ANZACs, and reflect on the values of service, resilience and mateship that continue to shape our nation.

We also recognise the significant contribution of Indigenous servicemen and women, who have served in every conflict involving Australia. Many served despite facing discrimination and inequality, and upon returning home were often not afforded the same recognition, respect or opportunities as non-Indigenous soldiers.

Their strength, service and stories are an essential part of Australiaโ€™s history and must be acknowledged and remembered.

Lest we forget.

The NSW Procurement Specialists have spent many years supporting small businesses through programs like Business Connect, helping owners navigate challenges, grow sustainably, and access practical, independent advice.

Right now, the NSW Government is reviewing how small businesses are supported across the state. This is a rare opportunity for small businesses themselves to influence what future support looks like.

If you want access to meaningful, specialist-led support in the future โ€” this is your moment to speak up.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Please complete this short survey before Sunday, 19 April:
๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/New-small-business-advisory-service/complete-survey

Your feedback will directly inform decisions about small business services across NSW. Strong participation helps demonstrate the value of programs that genuinely work for small businesses, including the type of support delivered through Business Connect.

If youโ€™re a small business owner who wants to be supported โ€” now is the time to make your voice count.

Struggling to navigate tendering for your small business?

Youโ€™re not alone โ€” tenders can feel complex, time-consuming and overwhelming. But theyโ€™re also one of the most powerful ways to secure consistent, high-value work.

Here are 3 quick tips to get started:
- Focus on opportunities that truly match your capabilities
- Read the requirements carefully (then read them again)
- Clearly demonstrate your value โ€” donโ€™t assume itโ€™s obvious

Winning tenders isnโ€™t just about being the cheapest โ€” itโ€™s about being the best fit.

If youโ€™re looking to grow through government or corporate contracts, now is the time to build your tendering strategy.

Today we recognise National Close the Gap Day.

The 2026 theme, โ€œCommunity Voices: The Pathway to Justice, Equality and Healingโ€, highlights the leadership, knowledge and lived experience of First Nations communities. Real progress happens when communities are heard and when solutions are community-led and grounded in genuine partnership.

Closing the Gap is about supporting self-determination, culturally safe services and stronger outcomes for Indigenous communities.
