SAVE THE DATE: 21 - 23 October 2024
Join the AFI and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation in the nation's capital in October for a 3-day program of interconnected events which will focus on leadership, policy, capacity and strategic goals for agriculture and rural Australia.

AFI’s annual Roundtable will leverage the Institute’s two decades of policy expertise and build on the 2023 theme of ‘Connecting Australia’s agrifood strategies’ to test strategic ideas with the best minds in the industry.

ARLF will facilitate a goal-focused leadership workshop to ensure these ideas aren’t merely recognised but are translated into actionable plans to benefit agriculture and rural communities.

Overcoming vulnerabilities in the agricultural input marketplace is not the kind of problem that attracts headlines, but it’s an issue crucial to our continued competitive participation in trade and a lynchpin in the end costs of food and fibre. By applying the Australian agricultural innovation mindset to the issue, we have an opportunity to be better than resilient – to create anti-fragile supply chains.

The latest edition of the Farm Policy Journal tackles this topic, with contributions from:
• Garry Goucher, Agricultural Economist
• Justin Maroccia, AFI Senior Researcher
• Ross Kingwell and Hemali Kanthilanka, Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre
• Justin Crosby, Director - Government and Strategic Relations CropLife Australia

The Carbon Opportunity Decision Support Tool (CODST) has been designed to assist Australian land managers in better understanding opportunities and to identify which might best be suited for their enterprise.

It covers five opportunities including: the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF), private carbon markets, linked loans, carbon-neutral and productivity gains. The tool links to additional resources, provides summary tables of key considerations as well as case studies.

How connected are you to your soil?

Global research has identified five indicators against which soil security can be assessed, one of which is human connectivity. The University of Sydney and AFI are conducting research to gain a better understanding of producers’ relationships with their soil and how this can be measured.

By completing this self-assessment evaluation, you will not only help with this ground-breaking research on soil science but also receive a personalised soil connectivity report. https://buff.ly/3PNbEP3
