Iām lucky enough to have a portfolio career finally in my 40ās after years aspiring - here are some tips on how to get one hopefully quicker than me!
1) Read the work of who coined and advanced the concept
2) Assess what will bring you money, feed your soul, ignite your passion. Figure out how much time you can dedicate to all three.
3) Look carefully at your finances and make sure these are covered by at least one of the above and do not compromise on this as it will give you the security to develop the other revenue streams and remove fear / knee jerk decisions
4) Make TIME to develop the other two - consider volunteering initially, learning from experts and building a network
5) Lean on your contacts who know and trust you and with whom you are credible who will support you - there is always someone who will give you a leg up. Ask for help.
6) Know your strengths and work with them rather than focusing on fixing your weaker areas - proven to drive productivity and flow, along with well-being and vitality
7) Be realistic about how credible you are in each area and get training, mentoring or coaching where needed and keep it up ongoing so that you never rest on your laurels and become complacent.
8) Have PATIENCE! In a world where we want it all now this may take some time - however the pay off to have your financial, creative and soul needs met will be a gift to yourself that you will cherish forever..šš»
