📢 Important Update for International Students & Education Providers in Australia! 🇦🇺🎓

The Australian Government has issued an official amendment to the National Code of Practice (Overseas Student Transfers Instrument 2026), introducing key temporary changes to student transfer rules.

Here is what you need to know about the updated Standard 7 transfer requirements:

🗓️ Temporary 12-Month Transfer Rule (Now through 30 June 2027)
Non-school international students must now complete at least 12 months of their principal course with their primary education provider before they are eligible to transfer to another provider.

🔄 Return to 6-Month Rule (From 1 July 2027)
Starting 1 July 2027, the required principal course duration before transferring will revert to 6 months.

🏫 School Sector
The requirement remains unchanged: school sector students must complete at least 6 months of their first registered school course before transferring.

💡 Exceptions Still Apply (Standard 7.1A)
Students may still transfer earlier if:

The releasing provider formally agrees and records the release in PRISMS.

The releasing provider or course ceases to be registered, or has regulatory sanctions applied.

A government sponsor provides written support stating the change is in the student's best interest.

The Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) has confirmed with the Department of Home Affairs 🏛️ that, starting October 1st, surcharges for cards such as Visa and Mastercard will be removed. 🗓️✅

Currently, a 1.4% surcharge applies 📉; given that visa fees can easily run into the thousands of dollars 💰, eliminating this fee means saving tens of dollars! 💵🙌
