If you are thinking about agency work, here is the honest version rather than the advert.

You pick the days. Nobody puts you on a roster you did not agree to, and turning a shift down is not held against you.

You get the detail before you accept. Role, call time, finish, address and entrance, uniform, who to ask for, and anything particular about the site. Not a time and a postcode.

The work is real hospitality, not filler. Function floors, corporate dining rooms, aged care and school kitchens, bars, clubs and stadiums across Sydney and the ACT.

What we ask is that you turn up when you said you would, in what the brief asked for, and tell us early if something changes.

Turning up prepared should not be a bonus. Before you accept a shift you should know these things. If you do not, ask.

Any agency can send you a time and an address. That is a booking, not a brief.

We send the details before a confirmed shift because it is the difference between arriving ready and arriving early to work out what is going on.

Asking for a missing detail is not being difficult. It is doing the job properly.

Getting the brief is the easy part. Reading it properly is what decides how your first hour goes.

Three things to do before the day.

Check the entry point, not just the address. Staff entrances, loading docks and reception are often on different streets. Work it out the night before, not at 5.55pm.

Read the presentation standard as an instruction. If it specifies shoes, apron or hair, that is the standard being enforced on the night.

Flag anything that does not match. If the brief says plated service and you accepted expecting buffet, say so before the day. Two minute fix then. Bad shift if you leave it.

Marking yourself available for everything does not get you more shifts. It gets you fewer, because it gives us nothing to match on.

Accurate means the days you can genuinely work, the hours you can genuinely start and finish with travel counted, and the areas you can genuinely reach.

If a 6am start in the C*D means leaving home at 4.40am and you will not do that, take it out. You are not being difficult. You are making yourself easy to book with confidence.

Nobody is good in every room. The people who know which rooms are theirs get better work than the people who claim all of them.

Three questions worth answering honestly.

Do you prefer sustained volume for five hours, or sharp peaks with quiet stretches either side?

Are you natural with some guests and uncomfortable with others? Members, residents, delegates, students and ticketholders want different things.

Are you better carrying a small crew where you make decisions, or slotting into a large one where you follow a run sheet?

Public holidays are work days in hospitality. If you are on today, have a good one.

If you are not, here is the useful part. Today's shifts were booked last week. Cup week is four weeks away and December builds from there, and those get booked earlier than people expect.

The names in the list with accurate availability are the names we call first.

Public holiday work is paid under public holiday conditions. What you are paid depends on the role, your classification and the conditions that apply, and it is confirmed in your brief before you accept.

⏰️ Daylight Saving starts overnight. ⏰️

At 2am this Sunday, clocks move forward one hour across NSW.

So before you head to bed tonight, don’t forget about those old-school alarms that still need a little manual adjustment.

For anyone working an early Sunday shift, that means one less hour in bed but brighter mornings are on the way.

Here’s to fewer dark starts and brighter shifts ahead!
