Super exciting stuff happening down here in Adelaide!
We've been knee-deep a project that’s about to change the game for South Australia.

It's pretty huge— possibly the biggest infrastructure project in the southern hemisphere right now.

While I can’t spill all the beans or share any pics just yet (oooooh mysterious),
I can say that we're working on some pretty innovative safety content that will inform over 10,000 workers.

Can’t wait to share more as we get closer to delivery! More to come!

Here's why we used a green screen this week:
TL:DR - so that it didn't suck.

- Because the room was too small.
No depth= person against the wall like a mug shot.

- Because the room was bland.
the background was devoid of visual interest and the framing would have been terrible.

- Because the lighting was rubbish.
What is it with modern offices that have centrally controlled lights we can't turn off!!

WITH the green screen:

- We control the background

- We have flexibility over the final look

- we can capture other interviews at other (similarly crap) locations and make them all! match

Had an absolute cracker of a day in the city today, catching up with some great clients!
There’s just something about face-to-face meetings that makes all the difference.

You can’t beat that IRL thing—actually reminding people that we're real humans!

It's these in-person chats that give us proper insights you just can't get over a screen.
You also tend to drill into any problems or soultions way quicker.

Nothing beats the vibe of a good convo over a coffee!

This was not a normal project.

Imagine your company says you have to:

- manage a video production project from the other side of the world,
- hoping the local crew, the equipment, and the locations are all up to expectation.

- You need to tell a deeply personal story, BUT you’re doing it through a translator,
which adds a whole new layer of "please tell me we're getting this right."

Who would you entrust to make it happen?

There’s always that nagging worry that the delicate, human moments will get lost
when you're juggling logistics and a language barrier at the same time.

Of course the secret is having a cracking team on the ground to help smooth out the bumps.

So that's what we managed for our client.

For this shoot in Belgium, we were working with our subject Mimi,
who was incredibly generous in sharing her journey with sickle cell disease.

We also had our local fixers sort crew, gear, locations and translators.
A bunch of problems we were able to take off our client's plate.

The result?

A strong patient focused video that we hope allows our client to 'move the needle' for sufferers of this condition.

A lot challenges for an incredibly worthy project.

"Video is too expensive for us right now."

We hear this a lot. And look - we get it.

But here's the thing worth knowing:

The most effective videos we've ever made weren't the most expensive ones.

They were the most honest ones.

A well-told story filmed over one day can outperform a slick TVC any day of the week.

Don't let budget be the reason your story doesn't get told.

Telling a story that’s actually about people, not just "patients."

You’ve probably got a story that needs to be told,
but you’re worried a camera crew will make everything feel a bit stiff and clinical.

You want to share someone’s real-life experience,
but you don't want it to lose its heart in the middle of a big production.

The tricky part is making sure the person sharing their journey
feels like they're just having a chat, not giving a performance.

We reckon the best way to do it is to just slow down and actually listen.

For this project, we sat down to capture a story that was pretty heavy,
but also incredibly important to get right.

It’s less about having the fanciest gear and more about making sure
the person on screen feels comfortable enough to be honest.

When you get that right, you don't really need to do much else—
the truth of the story does the work for you.

It’s a pretty special thing to be trusted with a story like this.

Just a bit of heart and a lot of respect.

Remember when I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro?

Me either, it was a while back. And I almost didn't make it...

That's not true, I just wanted you to keep reading. But I did get quite sick.

The altitude really got me after a couple of days. I couldn't keep food down, and I couldn't sleep.

By the final night, my heart was going like I was running cross country and I was just sitting in the tent.

In pitch black we made the final scramble to the top. I was slightly hallucinating by then, it felt like I could see a tennis court in my peripheral vision.

Nearing the top, when I coughed there was a tiny bit of blood and I was freezing.

But the sunrise and the rush of being there were amazing. I can still remember that feeling of watching the light poke through the clouds. A glacier on top of the equator! How crazy is that!

So here's the LinkedIn style hook:

I'd pasted a picture of the Mountain on a cardboard goal board a few years earlier. Almost on a whim, thought it would be cool.
But the picture was there as a reminder, something to chip away at.

It took a few years, but chip away I did. And it stay in my memory now as a little reminder that every mountain is a long journey composed of lots of little steps until you just kind of get there.

Thinking about a video for your business but not sure where to start?

Here's the one question we ask every single client before we even talk budget or format:

"What do you want people to FEEL after watching this?"

Not think. Not know. Feel.

That answer shapes everything - the tone, the visuals, the music, the story structure.

If you're in recruitment, pharma, health & safety or infrastructure and you've been sitting on a video idea - we'd love a chat. No obligation, just a conversation.

Getting the vibe right when the talent is the real deal.

You’ve probably seen Budjerah all over your feed the last couple of years
and wondered how to actually capture that kind of presence on camera.

The talent is real, but the worry is about it feeling like just another overly-produced promo.

The struggle is making sure the video feels as authentic as the person actually standing in front of the lens.

(This goes for capturing any sort of real talent in real life BTW, whether musician, CEO, sportperson ....)

The best way to handle it is to just stay out of the way and let them do their thing.

For this one, we kept it simple and focused on the energy he brings to the room

And then using our production skillset to subtly elevate it

to really illuminate someone who’s genuinely great at what they do.

Subtle tweaks to make our hero really shine.

Here's something I've noticed after years of filming in pharma and healthcare.

The brief almost never starts with the video.

It starts with: "We need people to actually understand what we do."

And that's exactly the right place to start.

Because when the science is complex, when the stakes are high, when the audience is sceptical - the only thing that actually lands is a story told by a real human being.

Not a voiceover. Not an animated diagram. A person.

That's the work we love at CHUCK. Finding that one human truth inside a complicated brief, and making it sing on screen.

What's the most complex topic you've ever had to communicate to a broad audience?
