In August 2022, a Ministerial Advisory Panel representing industry, building owners and government recommended a new consumer protection for apartment buildings called decennial liability insurance (DLI).

DLI is a strict liability insurance product of first resort that covers critical building elements, such as structure, waterproofing and fire safety systems. It allows building owners to make a claim at any point in the first 10 years post occupation – even if the developer or builder are no longer trading.

The NSW Government is seeking public feedback (till 2 October 2023) on proposed options to deliver this important protection. Have your say at:

We had the privilege of attending the Australian Apartment Advocacy 2023 Apartment Living Research report launch in NSW - a bi-annual national apartment living report based on 2,000 respondents.

Unique to NSW, when asked what was the most important when choosing an apartment, 💰AFFORDABILITY 🥇was top of the list. Not surprising when you consider the median unit price in Sydney was almost $760K, $230K and $309K higher than Melbourne and Brisbane respectively (APM Mar-23 data)
