Each ANZAC Day, we reflect on service and sacrifice. It’s also an opportunity to look at how recognition has evolved and who has had to wait for it.

For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women, service to Country—long before, and alongside, service to the nation—was not matched by equal recognition on return. Across Australia, veterans came home to systems that continued to restrict their rights, movements, and access to opportunities afforded to others.

In Victoria, a significant step was taken in 2006, when the state formally recognised Aboriginal servicemen and women and committed to ensuring their service was acknowledged and honoured. It marked an important moment—one of the first state-led efforts to address the historical gap in recognition.

While symbolic recognition cannot undo the past, it plays a critical role in shaping how we tell the story of service in this country. It broadens the narrative to include those whose contributions were overlooked, under-acknowledged, or mediated through systems of exclusion.

It also reminds us that recognition is not static, it evolves. And with that evolution comes responsibility: to continue listening, learning, and ensuring that the stories we elevate reflect the full history of service in Australia.

This ANZAC Day, we acknowledge all who have served and recognise that for some, that acknowledgment has come later than it should have.

The Melbourne team recently spent an afternoon at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, experiencing FUTURE COUNTRY. The second iteration of the Country Road + National Gallery of Victoria's First Nations Commissions initiative.

CIR are proud to work alongside Country Road in this important initiative - one that centres First Nations artists, mentorship, and the strength of intergenerational knowledge sharing.

The exhibition brings together emerging and established creatives from across the continent, exploring themes of truth-telling, cultural continuity, and future-making. It’s a powerful reminder that culture is not static - it’s living, evolving, and led by community.

Opportunities like this matter. They create space for First Nations voices, elevate storytelling, and invest in the next generation of artists and leaders.

Grateful for the chance to experience it together as a team and reflect on the role we all play in supporting this work.

If you’re in Naarm, it’s well worth a visit.

We’re proud to share some of the incredible work our clients are doing to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Recently, JCDecaux announced their Nurture for Country program, an initiative designed to support the growth and economic development of First Nations businesses.

This program will help established businesses scale their impact and connect with new audiences through JCDecaux’s extensive out-of-home advertising network.

It’s exciting to see initiatives like this creating meaningful opportunities for First Nations businesses to thrive.

Today is National Closing the Gap Day, and recently, CIR attended Yambamanjang: the NSW Closing the Gap Gathering on Kameygal Country, where the Local Government Closing the Gap Toolkit was officially launched.

CIR has been working closely with local Aboriginal organisations and councils across NSW to develop this important resource, designed to support local governments to drive meaningful Closing the Gap outcomes within their communities.

The Toolkit includes guidance structured around each Priority Reform, practical tools such as a self‑assessment framework for councils, and case studies showcasing the incredible work already happening across the state.

The Toolkit is now available for download via the LGNSW website here 👉https://lgnsw.org.au/Public/Public/Policy/Closing-the-Gap-Toolkit/close-the-gap.aspx?hkey=91a841bb-0292-4f90-97c8-150eeabc10ca

We encourage everyone to explore it and share widely!

Today is World Social Work Day, a day to recognise and celebrate the incredible impact social workers have in supporting individuals, families, and communities.

This day holds special meaning for CIR Consultant Chloe, a proud social worker who brings her knowledge, passion, and expertise to a wide range of projects here at CIR.

We also acknowledge the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social workers and Community leaders who continue to champion Community‑led approaches to social and emotional wellbeing. In alignment with this year’s theme, “Co‑Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society,” their leadership strengthens pathways grounded in culture, connection, and inclusion.

Through our work at CIR, we are fortunate to collaborate with social workers across many sectors who support, empower, and walk alongside Community, ensuring voices are heard, respected, and amplified.

👉 Share this post or tag a social worker who inspires you, supports your community, or continues to lead with heart. Let’s celebrate their impact today and every day.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who shape us.

This year’s theme is Give to Gain. But in many First Nations communities, women have long carried enormous responsibility — holding culture, strengthening families and Communities, and passing knowledge from one generation to the next.

For us, this day is about recognising the women who have shared their wisdom, leadership and strength, and the impact that continues to ripple through Community.

Our staff will be sharing the women who have influenced and inspired them — Aunties, Elders, leaders, family members and Community champions.

They’ll share what these women passed on to them, and what they now carry forward because of that.

"As we mark this milestone together, our focus remains on shaping the national conversation, elevating our stories, and building strong lives, vibrant communities and creative futures.” - Kim Walker AM, CEO, NAISDA

We had an amazing time Thursday on Darkinjung Country with NAISDA Dance College, celebrating five decades of Strong Lives, Vibrant Communities and Creative Futures.

NAISDA is Australia’s leading performing arts training organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and 2026 marks their 50th anniversary — a milestone honouring their ongoing legacy of blak excellence and impact on First Nations creative and cultural leadership.

Together with NAISDA's Community, we reflected on the NAISDA legacy and looked ahead to their next chapter, marked by the unveiling of their renewed artwork logo Giddigool, The Dancing Man and The Moon Man, by the artwork's original creator, Uncle Jeffrey Samuels.

“Giddigool, the Moon Man is about renewal and creation. A design concept appropriate for NAISDA. A logo of renewal and continuation of First Nations dance, performances and creation.” - Uncle Jeffrey Samuels

We can't wait to continue celebrating this milestone year with NAISDA.

As part of our ongoing work with the Melbourne Park RAP Working Group, we joined Melbourne Park and Tennis Australia for a walkthrough of the Australian Open precinct.🎾

The walkthrough offered a valuable opportunity to see the work Tennis Australia is delivering to embed First Nations visibility, storytelling and acknowledgement across the precinct during the Australian Open. The care and intent behind these activations reflect a strong commitment to reconciliation at one of Australia’s most high-profile sporting events.

Standing together in front of the Narrm sign was a timely reminder of the importance of strong partnerships — with Melbourne Park shaping how Country is acknowledged year-round, and Tennis Australia showing how major events can lead with respect and purpose.
