BUILDING OUR CIVIL TEAM | MEET SINA ARBABZADEH

With more than 20 years of experience, Sina joins Goldfish & Bay as Principal Civil Engineer and Civil Team Lead.

His experience spans land development, roads, residential subdivisions, education, industrial facilities, mining and airport infrastructure.

Sina believes Civil should be involved early, while there is still flexibility for stormwater, flooding, levels, access, earthworks and servicing to help shape better project outcomes.

As he continues to build our Civil team, Sina is looking for engineers who bring curiosity, ownership and strong communication.

A small treat. A team photo. An important question. đź’›

On Thursday, our team came together for R U OK? Day as a reminder to check in with the people around us, not only today, but throughout the year.

A genuine conversation can make more of a difference than we realise. Ask the question, listen properly and make time for each other.

We are very proud of the care, support and connection within our Goldfish & Bay team.

DAIKIN R32 VRV LAUNCH | MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The transition from R410A to R32 is about more than changing refrigerants.

This week, our Mechanical team attended the Daikin R32 VRV Launch in Sydney, taking a closer look at the new systems and what the transition could mean for mechanical design and delivery.

R32 has a significantly lower Global Warming Potential than R410A. But as an A2L refrigerant, its different characteristics also bring additional considerations for system design, refrigerant charge, safety requirements and installation.

There are parallels with the industry’s earlier transition from R22 to R410A. New technology can arrive quickly, but widespread adoption takes time as standards, specifications, existing systems and construction practices evolve alongside it.

For mechanical engineers, this is where early engagement with new technology matters. Equipment selection is only one part of the picture. Understanding how changing refrigerants affect the way HVAC systems are designed, coordinated, installed and operated is just as important.

Thanks to Daikin Australia for an informative session and the opportunity to take a closer look at the new R32 VRV systems. Credit also to our Senior Mechanical Engineer James Chen, whose reflections from the launch helped shape this post.

Explore geothermal HVAC in action — our Mechanical team visited the RHCS Experience Centre to see a live ground source system, plant room operations, underfloor heating circuits and the ground loop beyond the drawings. Learn how ground source systems can change the way we heat and cool buildings.

Last week, we looked at the transition to R32. This week, our Mechanical team turned its attention to a different approach to heating and cooling: ground source geothermal systems. On 26 August, the team visited the RHCS Experience Centre, where a fully functioning geothermal heating and cooling sys...

WE’RE HIRING ENGINEERS | With a bigger pipeline of projects ahead, Goldfish & Bay is growing fast, and we’re looking for Senior and Intermediate Engineers who want to be part of what we’re building.

We’re currently expanding across:

⚙️ Mechanical
⚡ Electrical
đź’§ Hydraulic
🔥 Fire Services
🏗️ Civil

We want engineers who are technically strong, enjoy solving problems and aren’t afraid to have an opinion.

People who want more than just another desk, another project number and another Monday morning meeting. People who want to contribute, be heard and take ownership of the work they deliver.

At Goldfish & Bay, you’ll work across a growing portfolio of projects, alongside engineers from multiple disciplines, with the opportunity to step up, take on real responsibility and play a part in where the business goes next.

We’ve got ambitious plans.
We’ve got plenty of work.
What we need now is more great engineers.

If you’re ambitious, technically capable and think engineering should be enjoyable, we should probably talk.

And if you’re not actively looking?

That’s fine. Sometimes the best opportunities start with a conversation.

Why are operating rooms kept at higher pressure than the rooms around them? Discover the engineering behind controlled air, ventilation, filtration and pressure that reduce airborne contamination—and help keep surgical patients safe. Read the short breakdown from Goldfish & Bay.

An operating room does not just need to be clean. Its air needs to behave differently from the air in the rooms around it.Modern operating theatres are carefully controlled environments where ventilation, filtration, temperature, humidity and pressure all form part of the engineering strategy for red...

POV: you work with someone in marketing and she suddenly appears in the middle of your meeting because she “has an idea”

One engineer Samuel Youssef kidnapped mid meeting. One tiny gap spotted in Riccardo’s very busy schedule upstairs.

Approximately zero notice for anyone involved.

Somehow the legends at Hero Shot Photography still squeezed us in and made it happen.

Marketing and last minute ideas. A dangerous combination.

Sorry to everyone who has to work with me

Why does engineering start below ground? Dive into the hidden world beneath the Burj Khalifa, piles tested to 6,000 tonnes, a 192‑pile foundation and design decisions that make supertall buildings possible. Read our latest Engineering Insights to see how foundations change the rules for what can be built above.

CITY2SURF 2026 | WE MADE IT TO BONDI

90,000 people. 14 kilometres. One incredible morning in Sydney.

Among the thousands making their way from the city to Bondi was our Goldfish & Bay team, taking on City2Surf 2026 together.

There were different paces, plenty of encouragement and probably a few moments on Heartbreak Hill when the finish line felt very far away, but everyone made it to Bondi.

More importantly, our team had three very good reasons to keep going.

This year, we ran in support of Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF), Beyond Blue and RSPCA NSW, three organisations doing incredibly important work for children and families, mental health and animal welfare.

We’re very proud of everyone who represented Goldfish & Bay on the day, and incredibly grateful to our colleagues, friends, families and wider community who supported our runners and donated to their chosen causes.

A beautiful Sydney morning, a great team effort and 14 kilometres for three causes worth showing up for.

Well done, Team ♥

ST NICHOLAS SENIORS CARE CENTRE | Designed around care, independence and connection, St Nicholas Seniors Care Centre in Punchbowl is a purpose built aged care facility delivered by Deicorp in partnership with Antiochian Care Limited.

Goldfish & Bay was engaged by Deicorp to provide Hydraulic and Fire engineering services for the development. St Nicholas was one of our earlier aged care projects together, building on an established relationship that has continued across many projects since.

The 80 bed centre brings together residential accommodation with health, wellbeing, hospitality, recreation and community spaces, creating an environment designed around the needs of its residents.

The project has received significant industry recognition, including the Senior Living Development Award at the Urban Taskforce Australia Development Excellence Awards and Gold at the BETTER FUTURE Sydney Design Awards, as well as being shortlisted in the Excellence in Aged Care category at the 2024 UDIA NSW Awards for Excellence.

We’re proud to have contributed our engineering expertise to a development that continues to receive recognition for its approach to aged care and design.
